The Brown Bag Project

Assignment Sheet

1. You will receive a brown paper bag. Take it home and fill it with 5 items that describe your and reflect your personality. DO NOT place any photos of yourself in the bag, and DO NOT write your name on the bag.

2. Bring your bag into class. I will assign you a number, which you need to remember. You will then place your bag in the designated area. DO NOT tell anyone which bag is yours!

3. You will then select another student’s bag. Remove the contents of the bag and analyze them.

4. Complete the Character Sketch Graphic Organizer.

5. Write a character sketch: In complete sentences and multiple paragraphs, write a well thought out and creative description of the bag’s owner. Include an attention-getter and a brief introduction and conclusion.

6. Practice delivering your speech. It must be 3-4 minutes in length.

7. After practicing, everyone will deliver their speeches to the class. After each speech, the owner of the bag will get up, claim his or her bag, and spend 1-2 minutes telling whether or not the speaker’s predictions were correct and explaining the real meaning behind the personal items.

8. YOU MUST SUBMIT THE TYPED CHARACTER SKETCH ON DAY ONE OF PRESENTATIONS, OR YOUR WORK WILL BE CONSIDERED LATE, REGARDLESS OF WHICH DAY YOU PRESENT.
