Jeffery A. Hartle has a varied background in fire protection, loss prevention, disaster management, and business continuity. He has undergraduate degrees in fire protection, a Master’s degree in Industrial Safety Management, and is completing a Ph.D. in Environmental Science with an emphasis in Disaster and Emergency Management at Oklahoma State University. He earned the Certified Fire Protection Specialist designation in 1990, and was elected a Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (London, U.K.) in 2002. Mr. Hartle also serves as a Board Member of the Fire Science and Technology Educators Section of the National Fire Protection Association.

Mr. Hartle currently serves as Coordinator of the Disaster and Emergency Management emphasis of the Master of Public Affairs degree at Park University’s Hauptmann School of Public Affairs. He is overseeing the development of new emergency management curriculum and the recruitment of experienced distance educators. He also serves as an adjunct instructor, teaching online graduate courses within the program.

Mr. Hartle has worked with five different institutions of higher learning, developing emergency management curricula ranging from community colleges to graduate programs. He has co-authored a new associate degree program in Disaster Management at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College in the British Virgin Islands and co-authored a baccalaureate degree in Crisis and Disaster Management at Central Missouri State University. He served as the principal author of the recently-approved emphasis area in Disaster and Emergency Management within the Master of Public Affairs degree at Park University’s Hauptmann School of Public Affairs.

In addition to his present role with Park University, Mr. Hartle has taught fire science and emergency management at Central Missouri State University, Arkansas Tech University, Louisiana State University at Eunice, and H. Lavity Stoutt Community College in the British Virgin Islands. In the private sector, he has developed corporate disaster recovery plans, managed corporate fire protection and security programs, and served as a loss prevention consultant and emergency trainer for a variety of industries. Mr. Hartle presently serves on the Local Emergency Planning Committee and as an active volunteer firefighter.
