6) Total # of Interviewees Referred: For the period from March 23, 2009, through March 22, 2010, this Employment Unit interviewed 7 interviewees for full-time job vacancies.

7) Supplemental Recruitment Initiatives. List and briefly describe the Supplemental Recruitment Initiatives undertaken during the period covered by this Report.

a) Initiative: Job Fairs

KWBU participated in 2 job fairs during this reporting period - the Non-Profit Job Fair at Baylor University on March 31, 2009 and the “Work in Waco” Expo on April 21, 2009. KWBU was represented at both events by Glenda Moss, Business Manager.

b) Initiative: TV Work-Study with Baylor University

The station sponsors Baylor University work-study students who are paid for working up to 20 hours per week in various KWBU departments. Student Steph Schrader worked for KWBU-TV’s production of “Inside Baylor Sports” from 9/08 – 8/09, where she received “hands on” experience in sports production and editing under the supervision of Senior Producer Robert Shiekh. Miss Schrader worked approximately 3 - 5 hours per week.

Work-study student Brady Johnson (a Film & Digital Media major) began working under the supervision of KWBU-TV Production Supervisor Joani Livingston on March 18, 2009 and worked through November 6, 2009 (prior to this he was an intern working under Ms. Livingston’s supervision). During his tenure, Mr. Johnson was tutored on the entire production process - from idea conception, to production, through post-production, to distribution, including shooting, writing and editing. He worked approximately 10 – 20 hours per week. Another student, Katy Emerson (Public Relations major), began working with KWBU-TV Production in May 2009 – also under the supervision of Ms. Livingston. Miss Emerson has also been given the opportunity to learn the entire production process and, like Mr. Johnson, will have the opportunity to have some of her work considered for air on KWBU-TV. Miss Emerson also works approximately 20 hours per week.

c) Initiative: Internship program with Baylor University

Mr. Bailey Eubanks (a Film & Digital Media student) has been an intern with KWBU-TV Production since August 2009. Mr. Eubanks works under the Supervision of KWBU-TV Production Supervisor Joani Livingston and he is scheduled to become a paid work-study student in April 2010. Mr. Danny Salas (another Film & Digital Media student) began interning with Ms. Livingston and KWBU-TV in January 2010. Mr. Eubanks and Mr. Salas both are experiencing an opportunity to learn the entire production process – from idea conception to distribution. Both students work up to 20 hours per week as their schedules allow.

KWBU-TV has one intern during the reporting period, Miss Ashley Baronet, working under the supervision of Ms. Clare Paul. Miss Baronet worked 6 – 8 hours per week from March 1, 2009 – May 10, 2009 as office help. She answered phones, filed, updated the Community Calender, and performed other general office tasks.

KWBU-FM had two interns during the reporting period – Alison MacFarlane and Anita Pere. Alison began her internship with KWBU-FM on 7/27/08 and worked through May 10, 2009. Anita Pere worked from August 15, 2009 – December 7, 2009. Both students received instruction on how to create logs and other operations tasks as well as how to construct stories and computer editing. They also worked on creating segments for KWBU’s “Dot Org” segments – short features on local area non-profit organizations. Miss MacFarlane and Miss Pere each worked 8 hours per week, under the supervision of Derek Smith, KWBU-FM News and Public Affairs Director.

d) Initiative: Participation in events sponsored by educational institutions

For the Spring 2009 semester, Dr. Charles S. Madden assigned one group of Baylor University students in his Non-Profit Marketing class the task of consulting for Brazos Valley Public Broadcasting Foundation as their research project. During the semester, students Aaron Bennett, Brittany Brady, Sarah Redmond, Rachel Glass, Sung Kim, and Victoria Santoscoy researched the history of KWBU, best practices of non-profits, other donor and giving models, and drew conclusions from their research and presented their findings to KWBU staff. The students were able to gain a much better understanding of public broadcasting, fundraising, different career choices, and marketing for public broadcasting.

On September 15, 2009 a group of young people from Teen Leadership Waco took a tour of the KWBU-TV offices, master control and production areas – Clare Paul, KWBU-TV Station Manager discussed careers in public broadcasting – programming, operations, engineering, etc. – and the difference between commercial and public broadcasting. This tour was arranged through the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce.

(e) Initiative: Listing of Upper-Level Category Positions in Job Banks With Substantial Participation of Women and Minorities

KWBU lists each upper-level category full-time job opening in job banks whose membership includes substantial participation of women and minorities.

f) Initiative: Provision of Training to Management Level Personnel as to Methods of Insuring Equal Employment Opportunity and Preventing Discrimination

Business Affairs Manager Carla Hervey attended supervisory core “Hiring and Orientation” training on April 28, 2009. This training was conducted at Baylor University in Waco, Texas by Baylor University Professional and Organizational Development staff. The objectives of the training included diversity in hiring, developing good, legal interview questions based on job criteria, and evaluating and selecting job candidates based on job criteria.
