Sierra-VA & NAMINAMI Homefront, a free 6 session educational program for families, caregivers, and friends of military service members and veterans with mental health conditions. Will be held on Mondays, beginning on June 3rd at the Fort McCoy South Post Housing Community. Program is free, but would like individuals to register in advance at On 5/22 from 1-3 the VA is hosting a screening of The Ripple Effect, in 455, Veterans Hall. Support professionals will be there should anyone need additional support or to processOn 5/30 Silouan Green, a veteran who speaks on PTSD and resiliency will be providing 2 workshops and a keynote. For more information, see attachedOn 5/23, NAMI will be hosting a Family and Friends seminar. This 90 minute presentation is for Friends and family of individuals who may be struggling with Mental Health concerns. Presentation will take place at Tomah Memorial Hospital 630-800pm. Registration is available at . Event is free but registration is needed.Connie-Mayo Clinic Health SystemMayo closing mental health inpatient facility. Discussed issue with Northwest Connections making determinations for voluntary mental health hospitalization. Michelle to discuss with Northwest Connection’s Clinical Director, Ashley.Dave-Sparta PDDiscuss issue of not having facilities to take people to for emergency detentions. Often, having to take youth to Winnebago or Sacred Heart in Eau Claire. Finding it more and more difficult to find places to take people. Have had to use transportation services when there isn’t the staffing to take someone across state, which is expensive. Dave shared that he attended a National Law Enforcement training for Missing and Endangered Children and he was the only one who had received ACEs training and training members plan to reach out about how our county has provided that education. Discussed additional challenges with having to have someone medically cleared for an emergency detention and the barriers for people having to go out of the area for care.Discussed importance of advocacy as many of the challenges are administrative rules that can be changed on the state level. Michelle shared to be on the lookout for funding to apply for youth crisis stabilization centers. Discussed the importance of continuing to have people share lived experience. In the future, group would like to highlight community agencies and efforts, community supports, informal supports, proactive and peer support, normalizing mental health (we ALL have mental health) and events that all coalition agencies are putting on during mental health month. Vicki will provide plans from Jackson County and what they do during mental health month. Discussed the possibility of having a ribbon campaign.AdvocacyAllSpeaker's Task Force on Suicide Prevention; Monday May 20th 12:00 p.m. at La Crosse County Administrative Building 212 6th Street N La Crosse, WI Would people like to provide public testimony?The Speaker’s Task Force on Suicide Prevention will be held on 5/20 at 12:00 p.m. Nancy has invited coalition members to come and speak. There will be invited testimony first, and then coalition members can speak during the public testimony session. Will have about 5-10 minutes to speak. Kayleigh plans to attend, so if people cannot attend but would like certain points covered, please send them to munity events/increasing visibilityAllMonroe County June Dairy Breakfast, June 1st at Hall Dairy Farm (10317 Cty E, Tomah) Would anyone like to staff MHC table?Both Cody and Tiffany will be at Dairy Breakfast.
