Kansas Barn Picture Contest Winners1917-1918FARM BARNS________Believingproper housingone of the essential features of livestock production, and desiring toplace before the public illistra-tions of what the farmers of Kan-sas have accomplished in this line of endeavor, the Kansas State Board of Agriculture, during March, 1919, conducted a barn picture contest, in which cash prizeswere offered for the best pictures of the best barns in Kansas. A generous response resulted in the acquirement of an excellent assortment of photo-graphs of especially good barns. Five prizes wereawarded, twelve pictures were given honorable men-tion. Reproductions of these photographs are shown on the following pages.They stand as monuments, not onlyto the thrift and prosperity of their owners, but asconcrete proof that when intelligent industry andmanagement is applied to the fertile soils of Kan-sas, bounteous yields, profits and wealth are the result. Two notable Honorable Mentions are the H. W. Fromme Round Barn in Kiowa County and the J.W. Birney barn located ? mile west and one mile southwest of the Fromme barn. The Birney barn is incorrectly listed as Ford County. This mistake may have occurred since the Birney’s had a Bucklin (Ford County) mailing address.First Place: Rooks County Barn (the W.G.
