WELCOME

After a somewhat squally spring, `flaming' June has arrived, and we begin to (optimistically) anticipate a glorious summer ahead. You never know, it could happen!

The Stage on Screen summer season (p11) gets into full swing this month, with opera from Glyndebourne; classic Shakespeare from the RSC; plus our exciting new Discover Arts shows.

Our new exhibition, Framed Expanse, explores the fascinating relationship between digital technologies and printmaking, considering how the physical landscape is reconstructed by digital imagery. Join us for the exhibition launch on Tue 21 Jun (p15).

If you're looking for new ways to make the most of those long summer evenings, we've got some great courses on offer (p14). You can book online now at .uk.

This month's film programme brings you a heady mix of laughter, intrigue, exploration, and steam trains! Go back to the `70s with Russell Crowe in crime-comedy The Nice Guys (p4); the everpopular Railways Remembered archive returns with Big Screen Steam (p5); and we journey down the Amazon into the dark heart of Colombia's colonial past in the stunning multi award-winning Embrace of the Serpent (p6).

There'll be some changes to our prices from 1 Jun and as part of these changes we're raising the age at which young people can get cheaper tickets, from 18 to 25. To find out more about how we set our pricing, read our CEO's blog at .uk/ticket-pricing.

Whatever you're into, you'll find it at Phoenix.

Phoenix is a registered charity, No. 701078. Our aim is to bring inspirational film and art to all.

THE KILLING PG

Sat 18 & Sun 19 Jun Dir: Stanley Kubrick Cast: Sterling Hayden, Coleen Gray USA 1956, 1hr 25mins

I SAW THE LIGHT 15

Mon 20 ? Sat 25 Jun Dir: Marc Abraham Cast: Tom Hiddleston, Elizabeth Olsen USA 2015, 2hrs 4mins

Screening to mark its 60th anniversary, Kubrick's third feature film is set around a heist at a racetrack. Determined to pull one last big job before settling down, veteran criminal Johnny Clay (Hayden) assembles a team, including a sharpshooter, a wrestler and a corrupt cop, to steal over $2 million during a horse race. But he doesn't reckon on one of the men's double crossing wife and femme fatale, Sherry (Marie Windsor). A masterful film-noir with razor-sharp dialogue.

Tom Hiddleston (The Night Manager) stars ? and sings ? as country and western singer Hank Williams in this bio-pic chronicling this country legend's rise to fame and tragic death at the age of just 29. Williams created one the greatest bodies of work in American music, yet he struggled throughout his all-too-brief career to cope with fame, alcoholism and their effects on his personal relationships. Beautifully shot, the film's talented cast includes Elizabeth Olsen as Willams' first wife, Audrey.
