With a membership that includes recent service academy graduates and retired engineering officers, project managers and corporate executives, uniformed and public sector professionals and private sector experts, SAME bridges the gaps between critical stakeholders to help secure our nation.What is the SAME SBC?The SAME Federal Small Business Conference for the Architecture, Engineering and Construction Industry (SBC) is an annual event where the public and private sectors come together to help federal agencies succeed with their small business missions and market research; help small businesses grow their presence and success in the public sector marketplace; and allow large businesses to engage with the best subcontracting and teaming partners to execute federal work. 2,500 attendees are expected at the 2017 SBC.When is the SBC?The SBC will be held November 15-17, 2017 at the David L Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pre-conference courses and training are available on November 14. What’s happening at the SBC? The SBC is a multi-faceted event. Features of the conference are:Government training sessions on November 14 – These sessions specially designed for government professionals include sessions on such topics as small business pass-throughs, time and cost management, and advanced project risk management.Business Opportunity Briefings – The uniformed services and government agencies share information on upcoming procurement opportunities for small businesses; sessions are organized by business line, such as horizontal construction, energy, vertical construction, and more.Small Business Education – Concurrent education sessions throughout the conference offer insights, best practices, and training to help small businesses grow and succeed in the federal AEC market.Exhibit Hall – more than 300 exhibiting organizations will help you find solutions, teaming partners, and success! Exhibitors include government agencies, large businesses, and small businesses. Do a year’s worth of market research over the course of the working Roundtables – Government agencies and large businesses host tables at which they are available to discuss real business opportunities and lay the foundation to develop new relationships with small businesses. Roundtables are appointment-based and on a first-come, first-served basis.Plenary Sessions – Plenary sessions offer insight and inspiration to conference attendees. Plenary sessions for 2017 include:Federal Leaders Panel – leaders from uniformed services and federal agencies will share insights on how their service/agency relies on small businesses to complete their work and the importance of partnership between their organization and small business. Over the past two years, SAME and VA have collaborated to expand the participation of the CFM community of interest in the SAME SBC, and VA’s OSBDU and CFM directorates have a plan to eliminate the design, construction and facility maintenance participation from the VA Small Business event and instead participate in the SAME SBC.How many CFMs are coming?At this time, the VA’s CFM directorate has indicated almost 25 individuals will participate in the 2017SBC.How will the VA participate in the SBC?The VA will participate in the following ways:Ms. Fiotes will participate on the federal engineering leaders panelSeveral CFM professionals will present business opportunity briefingsHost networking roundtablesWhat is the role and benefit for the VA?With 2,500 attendees and 300 exhibiting companies all in the architecture, engineering and construction industry, the opportunities are endless for the VA to conduct market research in support of meeting small business and other procurement goals, participate in above-board networking with small and large businesses, connect with other government professionals in the AEC/CFM industry, and participate in education and training sessions.What is the role and benefit for VOSBs?VOSBs can participate in the SBC by exhibiting or attending.
