Kindergarten Remote Learning for Families

Your family's health is of the utmost importance to us at this time. We also realize social-emotional development is crucial at this age level, but especially during this time of crisis. Young children are resilient and take their social-emotional cues from the adults around them. Providing information and explanations to our young children in an age-appropriate way will help ease some of their uncertainty. Ensuring our children are supported emotionally during this time of uncertainty is the foundation of any instruction we may provide.

Overall Goals of Remote Learning for Kindergarten:

Based on recommendations from the Illinois State Board of Education and guidelines from our district, we have established a plan for remote learning. We have put together this letter outlining our goals and letting you know what to expect as we move forward.

Kindergarten staff will plan and support 45 minutes of learning each day that targets reading, writing and math, with the emphasis on play-based family learning experiences, not on the mastery of a finite list of skills.

Teachers will...

Parent/Caregiver/ Family Suggestions for supporting learners...

? Make remote learning activities available in a timely manner. ? Be available at scheduled times to answer student/caregiver questions. ? Communicate regularly with students. ? Provide a range of meaningful learning opportunities that meet the needs of all learners during the period of closure. ? Provide regular feedback to students.

? Review work assigned to the student. ? Reserve a space for students to complete remote learning work. ? Encourage students to get enough sleep. ? Set sensible time limits for technology use. ? Talk to students about their work every day. ? Help students establish and follow regular daily routines. ? Create meaningful, family interactions.

The format of activities will be similar to our initial remote learning packet. As we move through the upcoming weeks, you will notice that much like the classroom, we try to make things routine and familiar. We hope that you are able to use these activities to develop a consistent flow of the day that fits into your family routine.

Page2

Student work will not be graded or have due dates, however we will do our best to give you feedback and support the learning your child engages in. Please let your classroom teacher know if you need any help or have questions as they come up.

You will also find a list of enrichment activities. These activities are not mandatory, but can be used to add to your learning experiences and activities at home.

Supplies & Paper Copies of Learning Materials

If you are in need of supplies at home to complete classroom activities, please let your classroom teacher know.

If you need printed copies of student work, the methods for pick up are the same. Mr. Martin will send out a whole school email with pick up times. This will be similar to the format parents picked up packets for the Act of God days.

Office Hours-

These are the times in which we will solely be devoted to answering emails, questions, etc. You are welcome to email at ANYTIME but this is what we are designating for communication. We will respond by the following school day within our office hour times (Your teacher will communicate with you their 2 hour time slot)

Morning Message-

As a Kindergarten team we value the importance of a Morning Message being sent out each school day. This Morning Message time is not part of the 45 minute academic time but we feel it is crucial. It is a way to touch base, check-in, and say hello. Teachers can stay connected to students and students can stay connected to their teacher. It allows everyone a sense of community while encouraging students and families to share about their lives.

Web-based Interactions-

We will not be adding any new ways of communication but rather use what has been in place for your classroom so far this year. We will be supporting learning through a variety of platforms including email, skyward, google (or Remind, if your teacher has been using this already).

We will NOT be holding interactive, web based morning meetings at the Kindergarten level. Instead, we are committed to a daily touch point through a morning message.
