And we know where that’s leading us. Days are carrying less daylight and many flying critters are gathering and beginning their annual trek south. We have now adjusted to the reality of a new school term – at least those who are directly affected among us. Likewise, a serious new season of football competition is well begun.Ongoing change in our personal lives is a matter of fact. We are either aging or not alive at all. New experiences accompany us daily, as well as near repetitions of previous activities. We are dynamic creatures. On a Monday evening last month we –the members of Council 3955 – gathered at Our Lady of Lourdes church to celebrate a special Eucharist and install our new leadership team to initiate a further fraternal year of service and fellowship under the banner of Columbian comradeship.I, for one, appreciate the opportunity to commence a renewed time period to pursue old and new goals and ventures. The extent of past years has provided a backstory of past successes and failures for me. Presently I look forward to both similar and distinct challenges to meet in the future. One of the better metaphors for human existence is the phrase “Life is a Journey,” which continues step-by-step. Abbot Pennings Council # 3955 has an outstanding history of significant achievements. I, myself, have both observed and experienced this process for several decades. From the moment I was first initiated I have been impressed and stimulated to be a better person. But we cannot simply sit back on past laurels and complacently congratulate ourselves on a job well done. We need to move forward with our commitment to both our Catholic Christian Faith, with which we have been gifted, and to the four ideals of Columbianism, which have been laid before us.One of my favorite church songs of recent years is Carey Landry’s “Companions on the Journey.” May I suggest each of us to search out the text of that song and apply the message to our joint activities.Father Pete RenardCHARITABLE DONATIONSOLOL Packer Tailgate Party $250St. John’s Homeless Shelter Fundraiser $700Hope Squad (Suicide Prevention) $500Wisconsin Pro Life Gala $100Just a reminder that if you have a charity request, please email it to kofc3955charity@ COMMITTEE REPORTSMEMBERSHIPAt our last meeting on September 9th, we had a First Degree. We took in one new member, Richard Schommer. Our next First Degree will be on November 4th. If you have an interested candidate; please call Steve at 606-4700. We did have an Open House at St. Francis on September 29th, at all 3 masses. Hopefully we can get a couple of new prospects we can go visit for our next degree on November.FAITHOn August 28th, five council & family members led the students from Our Lady of Lourdes School to the opening Mass of the 2019-2020 school year. The banner bearers were Pat Moran and Gerry Berner. The cross bearer was Dan Van Rite. John Mueller was the Lector and Chris Berner was a Eucharistic Minister. The OLOL Administration appreciated our efforts.LAMBEAU FIELDOur council supported another three events in September.
