MEMORANDUM OF INSTRUCTION (MOI) - CADET FIELD PRACTICAL TRAINING (CPFT), FY09

SUBJECT: Administrative Instructions for Air Assault School 2009, Fort Campbell, KY and Fort Knox, KY

1. There will be 5 Air Assault classes held this Fiscal Year by Cadet Command. Three will be conducted at Ft Campbell, KY, and two will be conducted at Ft Knox, KY. The administrative requirements will be the same for both as far as packets go.

2. Reporting: All Cadets need to arrive before 1600 as per CCIMS, and depart after 1600 on day of graduation. Arrival after 1600 will prevent Cadets from obtaining immediate transportation to lodging and they will miss in processing crucial to their success. Specific instructions for each post are:

3. For the FT Campbell Classes:

a. All Cadets arriving by plane need to arrive NLT 1600 on their arrival date (The dates are listed above and are the dates in CCIMS) at the Nashville, TN airport (Nashville International Airport; Airport Code: BNA), and depart NET 1600 on the day of graduation from the Nashville Airport. Government transportation is not available between Nashville Airport and Oak Grove, KY. Commercial travel will be provided by Jarmon Limousine (615) 275-0146 or toll free 1-(877) 255-6766 at no cost, with two copies of orders. The cost is $45 each way without orders. It is a one-hour ride to Clarksville. The Cadet will disembark the airplane on the third level, pick-up baggage on the second level, and then move to the ground level for transportation (Jarmon). Cadet must have two copies of orders available. Cadets will report to Holiday Inn Express, 12759 Ft. Campbell Blvd, Oak Grove, KY, 42262. Phone (270) 439-0022. Fax (270) 439-1499. They do not report to the actual AAS on Campbell. Once checked in, call POC LNO MSG Fawcett, Cell (864-384-9094), email: aas.lno.cdtcmd@. Cadets that will be arriving by POV will report to Holiday Inn Express, 12759 Ft. Campbell Blvd, Oak Grove, KY, 42262 NLT 1600on their report date. Again, Cadet’s flight must arrive into Nashville, TN prior to 1600 hrs on the report date IAW CCIMS. Cadets whom arrive prior to CCIMS report date will pay for lodging ($60 - $90 per night), as it will not be contracted at that point.

c. Battalions will obtain round trip Government Transport Request (GTR)/ reservations for Cadets attending Air Assault School at Ft Campbell, KY.

d. Cadets electing to drive to Air Assault School must be within 350 miles (one way) of Ft Campbell, KY. In addition they must meet all requirements for POV registration: valid driver license, proof of insurance, and vehicle registration. Cadets must have their POV inspected by a Cadre member and bring this sheet with them. Failure to produce these documents will result in the Cadet’s vehicle being parked for the duration of the course. Cadets electing to drive daily to school will follow the bus from the hotel and return with it in the evening. Reporting time and procedures still apply.

3. For the Fort Knox Classes:

a. All Cadets arriving by plane need to arrive NLT 1600, on their arrival date at the Louisville, KY airport (Standiford Field; Airport Code: SDF), and depart NET 1600 on the day of graduation from the Louisville Airport. Cadets will report to USO at the Louisville Airport upon arrival. Cadets that will be arriving by POV will report to Bldg 6542 NLT 1600 on their arrival date.

b. Battalions obtain round trip Government Transportation Request (GTR)/ reservations for attendees attending Air Assault School at Ft Knox, KY.

c. Government transportation is provided from Louisville Airport to Fort Knox and return. Cadets may be dropped off at Louisville Airport (SDF) between the hours of 1000-1500 for transportation to Fort Knox. All airport arrivals will report to the USO in the west wing of the airport.

e. Cadets electing to drive to Air Assault School must be within 350 miles (one way) of Ft Knox, KY. In addition, they must meet all requirements for POV registration: valid drivers license, proof of insurance, and vehicle registration and a completed vehicle inspection. Reporting time and procedures still apply. Use of the POV during the course will be restricted.

4. Required Forms:

a. Cadets must possess a valid physical allowing them to participate in ROTC prior to reporting to Air Assault School and clearly stamped that the Cadet is medically qualified. All Cadets will hand-carry (DO NOT PDF OR FAX) their approved physical with them to the school.

b. All documents (except medical records) are needed ten (10) days prior to class start date. Failure to provide required documents in a timely manner may prevent your Cadet from attending the school. All documents must be completed correctly and placed in one file folder with the Cadet’s name. PDF the packet to: aas.lno.cdtcmd@ . If you do not have PDF capabilities, for the Ft Campbell classes, fax the documents to: Holiday Inn Express, Fax: (270) 439-1499 ATTN: MSG Fawcett, Cadet Command LNO, AIR ASSAULT. For the Ft Knox Classes, fax to: Eastern Region, Fax: (502) 624-7146, ATTN: Jeff Markle/SFC Thomas. Put the Cadets name, Class Number, School POC Name and voice phone number on cover sheet. A complete packet includes:

1. Fort Campbell Form 4137 (FC 4137)

2. One copy of orders (1)

3. Flight Itinerary if flying or POV Checklist if driving

5. Cadets cannot wear contact lens at any time during training at Air Assault School. If required, two (2) pair of military issue glasses or civilian equivalent (heavy plastic frames and lenses with retainer strap).

6. Cadets should take approximately $200 minimum to cover incidental/personal expenses during the training period. Be advised, some Cadets spending habits vary. Recommend traveler’s checks or money orders in small denominations. Mess will be provided at no cost to the Cadet. Cadets are authorized per-diem for the travel dates IAW their orders.

7. Packing list and course requirements can be found on the Air Assault School (link is on the right hand side) website, . Follow link to Air Assault School packing list. It is highly recommended Cadets bring an extra pair of tennis shoes a complete extra set of ACU/BDU’s if possible as laundry service is limited if possible. The frame on the rucksack is required for the 12 Mile Road March. It is also recommended Cadets have broken in boots to completed required foot marches. In addition, when looking at the class schedule some classes will be listed as full or cancelled. For the full ones your Cadets have already been scheduled. The ones listed as cancelled were done so because there is no Ft Campbell class at that time as the AAS staff will be instructing our Cadets at Ft Knox.

8. Cadets must complete the 12-mile road march (with 20 lb rucksack) in three hours within 90 days of the course start date. The Cadets must negotiate the obstacle course within 60 days of the course start date. If an obstacle course is not available nearby, all measures must be taken to get your Cadet properly trained even if it requires 6 hours travel. At a minimum your Cadets must be able to climb an 18 ft rope in the event there is absolutely no obstacle course. This by no means is a waiver. Cadets must pass an Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) in accordance with FM 21-20 within 30 days of the course start date. In addition, the home school cadre is required to inspect the Cadet’s uniform and equipment prior to attending them attending the course.
