FRAN?AIS 1, 2 & 3 Class SyllabusMadame Maldonado – Rm. 2-140Email: imaldonado@ August 2019Dear Student:Cher (e) étudiant(e): ?BIENVENUE ? LA CLASSE DE FRAN?AIS 1, 2 & 3! Welcome to the French 1, 2 & 3 class! Course Description: The purpose of this course is to acquire intermediate proficiency in French through a communicative and interactive approach. Along with expressive (speaking and writing) and receptive (listening and reading) skills, emphasis is placed on the development of cross-cultural understanding of the countries of the French-speaking world in comparison with each other and with the United States. . The key to learning a second language is to be consistent, dedicated, hardworking, and most important, to be willing to speak and participate in class in the target language. Remember that practice is the key to success in the acquirement of a foreign language! Speaking in this class is MANDATORY without exceptions.Bonne Chance! The Florida Next Generation World Languages State Standards include Modes of Communication (listening reading, speaking and writing), and Intercultural Standards (culture, connections, comparisons and community). What does this mean for you? The students will have the opportunity to improve the four skills that are necessary to learn a language: speaking, listening, writing and reading. They will work in the textbook: Discovering French today! The students will have the opportunity to practice French not only with the workbook; I will include a variety of activities such as music, story reading, theater and projects about the different French cultures. One of my projects should include the participation in a total immersion activity, parents and students will be invited to attend this activity. Learning a new language should help you make connections to other school subjects, compare your native language to French and enrich your life by introducing you to another world.Learning a new language means that you will have to pay close attention to the teacher, listen carefully, read, frequently practice speaking and writing, and study vocabulary and grammar.Course Objective: Students will learn language skills which will allow them to complete real-world tasks such as tell a story in the past; describe their feelings, desires, and opinions; and talk about geography and history of various French-speaking countries. Students will expand many of the skills they already have to include new vocabulary and irregular grammar constructions.GradesGrades will be based on classwork, homework, projects and assessments that will measure your ability in French. A final exam will be given at the end of each quarter. After that, late work will automatically receive a reduced grade. Plagiarism will not be tolerated under any circumstances! Plagiarism also includes copying someone else’s homework or classwork. Cheating is also an unacceptable offense and not tolerated under any circumstances! Cheating includes, but is not limited to, copying another student’s work, allowing another student to copy your work, using any unapproved aides such as cell phones or other electronic devices, written materials, “cheat sheets” and anything that may unfairly provide a student with an answer. If a student is caught cheating or plagiarizing, they will receive an F for that assignment and a 1 in conduct for the nine weeks. They will receive a written notice and a parent contact will be made immediately after the infraction. The conduct grade cannot be improved for that 9-week grading period.
