Overall changes
Design:
The updated design in the Twelfth Edition will make navigating new and updated materials easy for all instructors. This modified design was prompted by advisory board members’ request for more white space, giving students more room to take notes. The new chapter opener design includes the Master Student Map, a reasoning model based on the Learning Style Inventory and includes the Student Voices feature, which was previously found throughout the book.
Organization and new content:
The new edition is reorganized so that the Discovering Careers chapter is now early in the book as Chapter 2. The revised purposes of this chapter are for readers to:
• Discover the vast range of available careers.
• Define skills as the essence of any job.
• Distinguish between transferable and content skills.
• Gain strategies for planning in general and career planning in particular.
• Brainstorm personal career options.
• Research careers and make a trial career choice.
• Plan to develop specific skills that will promote their success in school and in the workplace.
Chapter 3: Memory from the first edition has been combined with Chapter 6: Tests.
Managing money is more important than ever for today’s students and complete coverage can now be found in the new Chapter 9: Money. Learning how to responsibly use credit, create and stick to a budget, and protect their identity will help students in their college career and beyond.
