New Staff – Learning Technologies InductionYour Learning Technologies Adviser (Information Services) provides guidance and support in your use and implementation of digital strategies across your teaching, in the classroom and online.My StudiesThe university uses Blackboard, known here as My Studies (formerly studentcentral). The University has a baseline agreement on the use of My Studies with all modules using it.Your modulesEach year you will have a new blank area for each of your modules, known as a module ‘instance’. These are created by your school office staff and come with a default set of menu items ready for you to populate as appropriate.Use the Blackboard Ally tool to ensure all materials for your students have good accessibility.AssessmentsAll text-based assignments must be submitted electronically, however if your assignment is not text based there may still be an electronic submission solution. The My Studies Grade Centre is available for staff to use to manage the distribution to students of all module marks and feedback. We have a number of solutions to facilitate the submission, marking and feedback of assessments. Each solution is provided to support the variety assessments our students complete. They are:My Studies Assignment - Use for the submission of multiple files or non text-based submissions. This tool also supports the submission of group work if used alongside the groups function.Turnitin - Use for all single document text-based submissions requiring originality checking and/or anonymous marking.My Studies Blogs, Wikis and Journals - Used for assessed reflections or collaboration projects. My Studies Tests - Tests include several traditional question types, as well as short answer, essay questions, and file submission. Before using tests please speak to your Learning Technologies Adviser for guidance on the various options for deploying your test, particularly if using for summative assessments.Panopto Student Assignments - for student video submission.Speak to your Learning Technologies Adviser as they can help you choose and implement the best solution for your assessments.Other technologies to support Learning and TeachingMicrosoft TeamsOffice 365 tools are available to staff and students. Teams is an online tool that can facilitate online discussions?and enable you to deliver live seminars to students.Panopto VideoPanopto allows you to produce interactive pre-recorded learning content. You will find the Panopto Video link in your 2020 My Studies modules.Blogs.brighton.ac.ukWe have two supported blogging tools, one within My Studies, available within your modules and only visible to those enrolled on the module. The other is Edublogs?, the educational version of Wordpress?. This platform enables you and your students to create multiple blogs including group blogs and control access to them.
