Technology Lesson Objective(s):

The learner will use Kid Pix to demonstrate details about the water cycle. This project will be illustrated and typed using Kid Pix.

Procedures:

Prior to beginning lesson the teacher will copy the templates (see Resources) and paste them into a common location that students can access. (LISDcommon\K-2 Tech Camp) See your ITS for help.

Kid Pix Lesson Plan

Session 1

1. Open Kid Pix.

2. Go to File/Open. Choose Water Cycle 1 page

3. Click on the text tool in the toolbox. Click on the words “Type your name here” and begin typing name.

4. Click off. Then click on the picture of the disk to save this slide. Student will save

into their home directory.

5. Click File/Save As.

6. Navigate to your H: drive (ID #) in the Save In box. Your document will need to be named. This will be WC1 plus your name.

7. Click the SAVE button.

8. DO NOT USE FILE/ SAVE AS AGAIN. ONLY USE FILE/SAVE!!

9. Click File/Print Preview to see if you have the desired page orientation. You may want the page to be in landscape position. If so click File/Page Setup and click the circle beside landscape. Click OK.

10. Click File/Save.

11. Click File/Exit or the X in the top right hand corner.

Session 2

1. Open Kid Pix.

2. Go to File/Open. Choose Water Cycle 2 page

3. Click on the pencil tool in the toolbox. Draw an arrow using the pencil and the straight line tool to show the how water evaporates. The student can use the color palette to change the color of their arrow.

4. Click off. Then click on the picture of the disk to save this slide. Student will save into their home directory.

5. Navigate to your H: drive (ID #) in the Save In box. Your document will need to be named. This will be WC 2 plus your name.

6. Click File/Save.

7. Click File/Exit or the X in the top right hand corner.

Session 3

1. Open Kid Pix.

2. Go to File/Open. Choose Water Cycle 3 page.

3. Use the tools to finish the picture to show how water vapor can form clouds.

4. Click on the picture of the disk to save this slide. Student will save into their home directory.

5. Navigate to your H: drive (ID #) in the Save In box. Your document will need to be named. This will be WC 3 plus your name.

6. Click File/Save.

7. Click File/Exit or the X in the top right hand corner.

Session 4

1. Open Kid Pix.

2. Go to File/Open. Choose Water Cycle 4 page.

3. Use the tools to finish the picture to show how water vapor can form clouds.

4. Click on the picture of the disk to save this slide. Student will save into their home directory.

5. Navigate to your H: drive (ID #) in the Save In box. Your document will need to be named. This will be WC 4 plus your name.

6. Click File/Save.

7. Click File/Exit or the X in the top right hand corner.

Session 5

1. Open Kid Pix.

2. Go to File/Open. Choose Water Cycle 5 page.

3. Use the text tools to highlight each word text box. Student will click and drag the word to label each part of the water cycle.

4. Click on the picture of the disk to save this slide. Student will save into their home directory.

5. Navigate to your H: drive (ID #) in the Save In box. Your document will need to be named. This will be WC 5 plus your name.

6. Click File/Save.

7. Click File/Exit or the X in the top right hand corner.

Session 6

1. Open Kid Pix.

2. Go to File/Open. Choose Water Cycle 6 page.

3. Use the tools to complete their own picture of the water cycle in the winter.

4. Click on the picture of the disk to save this slide. Student will save into their home directory.

5. Navigate to your H: drive (ID #) in the Save In box. Your document will need to be named. This will be WC 5 plus your name.

6. Click File/Save.

7. Click File/Exit or the X in the top right hand corner.

The teacher can now print the completed pages through slideshow or each page individually.
