Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences

Gardner (1983) proposes that intelligence can be sub-divided into the following kinds of intellectual strengths: linguistic intelligence, musical intelligence, logical-mathematical intelligence, spatial intelligence, bodily-kinaesthetic intelligence and the personal intelligences (intra-personal and inter-personal). He suggests that these intellectual characteristics interact and impact on one another from the beginning of life to produce productive lines of thought and action. He proposes that educational experiences should be focused towards developing all the intelligences, monitoring and sustaining unusual potential in one or more areas while keeping a balance across them all.
