State Symbols and Interesting Facts _____/30

• List the following state symbols and give the significance of those choices (For instance: Arizona’s state flower is the saguaro cactus blossom. This was selected as Arizona’s state flower because saguaro cacti are not very common in other parts of the United States, but are found throughout large portions of Arizona.)

• Include 5 – 7 little known or interesting fun facts about your state. (10 pts)

You will draw a state map (zoomed in so it would fit most of an 8 ½ x 11 sheet of paper) Neighboring states or country must be drawn and labeled as well. The following must be clearly labeled on your state map:

• Capitol city (5 pts)

• Cities mentioned in your tourism section & historical section (5 pts)

• Major physical features (known for) such as; forests, mountains, lakes, rivers, plains, deserts, valleys, caverns, caves, canyons, etc. (5 pts)

• Create a key and label where some of your states major industries are located (Farming, Dairy, Auto, Mining, etc.) (5 pts)

• Current population of your state (5pts)

Make a chart/graph about one of the following:

• Average rainfall (precipitation)

Tourist Hotspots _______/30

• Includes three places in your state that are popular tourist destinations. (10 pts each)

• Includes information about each place such as why it is popular and what is available to see there.

• Should be written in informational format (Ex: The Grand Canyon is a popular tourist destination. For millions of years weathering and erosion have created this sight that draws tourists to marvel at this natural wonder. NOT: The Grand Canyon is awesome and amazing, you should definitely go check it out!)

Family Visit _______/25

Choose one of the three places that you mentioned in your tourist hotspot section that you and your family would like to travel to. You will create a scrapbook about this destination written as a narrative, as if you and your family have actually been on a visit to this destination. Included in this small scrapbook should be:

• Costs for yourself and every member of your family (admission, food, souvenirs, parking etc)

• You will calculate all of these costs and display on a chart or table.

• Pictures of the sights/important places along with descriptions or captions.

• Neatness of overall project

• Spelling and grammar

• Pictures and visuals in each section help the viewer get to know your state and aid in your overall presentation.
