Your next Task: An Informative Speech about a Historical ...

Your next Task: An Informative Speech about a Historical Person - there is a CATCH… You will not reveal this person until the end of your speech. The audience will have a chance to guess your subject. If you know someone’s topic, please do no tell.

Instructions:

Choose a figure in history that would be well known by most people, and who has enough personal information available to give clues and details to your audience without ‘giving it away too soon’. Find some obscure, or little known examples to describe the life and/or history of your person of choice to include uncommon facts of which you will inform your audience. As you near the end of the speech, you will add more commonly known information so that the audience will begin to make connections and hopefully guess the figure by the end of the speech. You will be required to create a power-point with visuals, and your speech will be on your power-point so that you are NOT supposed to read from notes for this speech. You will have a printed copy of your power-point for reference. Be positive, express enthusiasm and entertain us. You may (but, I encourage you not to) use a single note card for an outline. There will be no podium and you cannot read this speech, but you may use your notes for reference..

Your visual support will show homesteads, family members, and other photos that relate to the clues, but NOT the individual – at least not until your speech is over and the audience has an opportunity to guess the figure.

Your speech presentation should be structured like a good story. Use the following outline to prepare your speech:

I. Title: Everyone’s title will be “WHO AM I?” followed by your introduction….

Introduction (Short, grab attention)  - PHOTO 1

Example: “In 1929, this courageous female was born to parent, John and Samantha, in Long Island, NY. (Then maybe insert a Photo of Long Island in 1929)

II. Thesis (Foster development, Develop and Make your anonymous introduction) Example: She attended public school in Long Island where she was the spelling bee champion during her 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade school years (Maybe a photo of school children in a spelling bee) . She went on to become one of the most respected women in Canadian and U.S. History. Continue with facts…….

 V. Conclusion / Summary

(Brief restatement of major points) PHOTO 5

Summary should then leave room for the statement – Do you know who I am OR Do you know how this famous architect was? ((ei: the “Who am I?” of the speech).. after a moment of guessing, display the name of the individual with a photo and have your conclusion paragraph information on the final slide. FINAL PHOTO(6)
