Classwork for January 25 – 29, 2021***Important – All second grade students are required by the district to take the Data Mate Assessment. Please log into Clever. Click the Data Mate App (light bulb picture) and complete the assessment. This assessment must be completed by Friday, January 29, 2021. This assessment reviews math concepts. Results will be used for planning instruction.Reading- This week we will begin Unit 5 Week 3. Each students was sent home with a Daily Focus Packet for this unit. Your child should be completing the packet. In addition, he/she should be logging onto the Benchmark App and completing assignments. This work is extremely important for preparing your child for the rigors of third grade. Spelling and Phonics – This week we will review the ow and ou sound. Please practice reading and spelling the words below. Also, there are several ou/ow review games on the Benchmark App. I have added them to your child’s assignments for the week.Brown, now, count, out, cow, owl, house, round, mouth, townPractice Ideas: Print the words in two groups an ou group and a ow group. Then, go back and high-light the ou and ow in each word. Write a detailed sentence using each word. Can you think of other ow and ou words? Make a list.Writing- We are learning about diary/journal entries. This is another form of writing. To make this more fun, we have read several fictional stories: Diary of a Spider. Diary of a Fly, and Diary of a Worm. This week we will be practicing writing proper journal entries. We will write both fictional and non-fictional entries. Here is an example below: January 25, 2021Dear Diary, I had a busy day on the farm. My friends and I rolled in some mud and it felt great. We laid in the sun and ate most of the day. My mom was oinking and complaining about cow. She is tired of hearing cow say, “Moo.” From, Pig January 25, 2021Dear Diary, Today I had a great day with my friends at School 5. We practiced reading and answering questions. We were making compound words too. I love math now, because I’m learning to multiply. I make arrays. I’ll be sure to write again tomorrow. Please have your child practice coin recognition. He/she should understand coins have value. In fact, he/she should be able to find the value of a group of coins. Please be sure to use the SumDog App Science and Social Studies: This will be our final week of studying inventors. We will review that many inventions are created as solutions to problems.
