European NGV News

Italy

Over the last 12 months, 7 out of every 100 vehicles registered have been CNG powered and over 90% of these are Fiat models.

The #1 OEM NGV market in the world has now a new model in the marketplace: Fiat introduced the Qubo Natural Power last September, available in two versions, both powered by the same 70 HP 1.4 engine (Euro5).

United Kingdom

The first biomethane-powered bus in the UK was launched at the University of East Anglia in the beginning of September. During the launch, parties majorly involved in the introduction of the technology gathered: UEA's Low Carbon Innovation Centre, Anglian Bus (operator), bus manufacturer Optare plc, and engine conversion specialist Hardstaff Group. The bus actually runs on a dual-fuel

biomethane/diesel system. The dual-fuel system was installed in a standard Optare Solo single-deck diesel midibus from the Anglian Bus fleet. The original Mercedes-Benz diesel engine was converted to operate on biomethane around 60-80% of the time. Hardstaff, which converted the bus, also supplies biomethane through its refuelling station. The project was mainly funded by CIVITAS, EU's initiative to promote cleaner and better transport in Europe's cities. It is expected this technology will be used by bus fleets all over UK and even across Europe in the future.

Sweden

Last July was the month chosen to start the construction of Europe's first liquid to compressed biogas (LCBG) refuelling station in Sundsvall City of Sweden. According to Cryostar SAS, Sundsvall will be the first city in the world to offer biomethane for vehicles through an LCBG facility. The refuelling station will be located near a major highway. AGA Gas AB with the support of Cryostar has built the LBG and LCNG refuelling station. AGA also owns and operates the station. Cryostar provides the high pressure pump, the line control system, and the programmable control panel for the whole station. Mitt Sverige Vatten will supply the liquefied biomethane. NGV use is aggressively promoted in the country. Both public and private sectors have been involved in the success of NGV adoption. Last July, the monthly NGV sales rate in Sweden was reported to rise from about 150 to more than 700 units since the introduction of the new Passat TSI EcoFuel early this year. More than half of all new cars sold are company cars, mainly medium-sized sedans or wagons, such as the mentioned VW Passat and Mercedes B 170 NGT.

Incentives

A 750 Euro subsidy for NGV purchase is available in Luxembourg. In Poland, the government offers excise duty exemption for CNG until October 2013. In Austria, since July 1st, 2008, the government offers a 500 Euro tax bonus for a new NGV registration. The country target is to open 200 CNG refuelling stations by 2010. In Italy, a CNG conversion gets a 650 Euro subsidy.

Notizie sul settore NGV europeo

Italia

Regno Unito
