We are settling into our home and all seems to be going well. God’s grace is truly amazing. We still have some work to do with our home (as all people do with their homes, it never ends), but we are very excited. Now it is September and we are arriving into the Fall Season. August was a very good month of ministry here at Sharon. As of August 13th we had at least 8 requests for baptisms; others came forward to join the church and renew their relationships with the Lord. People also came to the altar to share with the Lord pain on their hearts, loved ones who needed the Lord’s touch and salvation. We should be truly thankful that God is moving here at Sharon Baptist Church. September is also the time when school starts. I know I am excited to see Breadyn and Isayah enter the new school year; make new friends and hopefully learn some new things. We must keep our children and grandchildren of all grades in school in prayer this school year. Pray that the children can be a witness of God’s love to those around them. Also, pray for protection for each child as the school can be a tough place. Pray for the teachers, especially the Christian teachers and administrators who struggle to live out their faith in the classroom in a world of Academia that seems to continue to be more and more hostile to Christianity, specifically more hostile to Jesus and those who want to be like Him. Pray that Sharon Baptist Church can be a support and a light in this community to these children and teachers. September is also the beginning of the New Year for the Church organization. People in our church taking up new tasks and missions; others continuing in their work for the Lord. All these people have a new beginning at this time of year. Pray for those serving in the church and seek out ways you can be involved if you have not found your task for the Lord. I am sure you will be welcome. Let us all take Peters advice, “Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1:13 NASB)God bless you all. In Christ Pastor James Music Ministry September 2015Musically Speaking…We were delighted to begin August with our Men’s Quartet, now known as ‘BOLD & BIBLICAL’, and their upbeat gospel sound. We certainly can’t readily forget our second Sunday with “The Harvester’s” toe- tapping, hand clapping over-the-top songs! I bought the CD, did you? Keeping our traditional notes alive, we heard the Sanctuary Choir (from the Loft) lovingly praise the Lord on the 16th and 30th.Thanks to all for keeping a strong choral community in our church.During the 3rd week in August, the Rogers Organ folks swept in to move our organ over to the right side of the sanctuary. Many of us have lamented about the “bottleneck” of ‘people traffic’ entering and exiting the sanctuary; hopefully this will create just a little more space! Along with that, the great guys on Buildings and Grounds are looking to (re) construct the pulpit railings so that our choir could enter from the baptismal door into the lofts and alleviate the ‘people congestion’ outside in the hallway. One of the challenges I have found this year was to make “Ye Olde Churche Choire” a more multi-generational group. The youth and young families of our church are numerous and I believe we could reach a whole other level of energy with engaging them to join us. One of the benefits is that each generation brings qualities to the group as a whole; a blending that could only strengthen and positively affect the other aspects of our ministry. You may not feel your special abilities fall toward singing, but really, how good do you need to be to lift HIS name on high? From the Loft in His name,Lynne20637501270Music Ministry(continued) September 2015Soon and Very Soon we will be able to Turn Our Eyes Upon Jesus…or at least see those lyrics from screens displayed in the sanctuary! We are hopefully approaching a mid-September installation date for our new sound system from our contractor, Bowling Green electronics. They came over to the church recently and met with Pastor Sevon and a member of Building and Grounds to review locations for some of the components and check electrical requirements. They did recommend mounting the screens to the walls, rather than utilize swing arm mounts for the displays (it will reduce some costs as well) They will also be providing a video feed cable to the fellowship hall to enable us to provide displays of the sanctuary for later in the year. The multimedia is looking into replacing the current screen as it is broken. We are excited to find that we will have new members joining the committee in the Fall to help with controlling our video and audio needs. Please let us know if you would be interested in serving.Chris and Steve will continue to be ‘at the board’ for our services in September, if you have anyrequests for sound checks; please contact them for dates. It was suggested to us, to hold a social event to feature ALL our specially talented musical folksand to have a love offering to kick off our celebration of new equipment. “Take it out for a spin” so to speak! We would also appreciate financial contributions (send those checks to Anita, marked Sound) to help repay the graciousness of the church in affording us this opportunity to improve and enhance our audio/video system! Sounding Off from the Multimedia committeeChris White, chairmanTreasurer’s Report September 20155168900162560-50800105410 4778375-111760kiddie kornerBoy, have we had a busy summer! Another VBS has come and gone and next month we will be starting with Christmas play practice. YIKES!!! Where did the summer go?VBS was a blast. Everybody had a blast, even the older kids (the 40- 50 yr. olds).? We had 68 kids and about 40 volunteers.?Several of the volunteers were of the youth persuasion and did a great job being Mary, Eunice and other shopkeepers.?I'm sorry there was no adult class this year, I know they missed it; that will not happen again. Pastor James really got the kids psyched up about the offering every day. He promised that for every $100?an adult would get a pie in the face. That got them very excited and the money poured in every night.?They knew the money was for the Bibles for Thailand, but they really wanted to throw that pie in an adults face! On VBS family night after all the festivities, great songs by the kids, and wonderful dinner, it was time to draw the names of the adults to be "pied". Then the kids were picked and we all went outside. Matthew?Barber, David Previs, Chris Wilson, & I got a pie in the face. Pastor James got one too, his was in the back of the head and all over. We raised over $550 for about 140 Bibles going to Thailand.July 12-17 we went on a mission trip to Gloucester. We had 3 mini campers with the youth. It was the Bohr boys, Hope and I and some of our youth worked with the mini campers. They are in a Bible school setting while the youth and adults go out and do jobs in the community. We really had a great time and look forward to it all year. Then you go and it’s over with before you know it! Come go with us next year.July 19th the kids had a Lemonade table set up out back. It was very hot that day and the lemonade was cold. We made $75.25. I heard this morning from Anthem that they raised over $102,000 for childhood cancer. YAY!!! We are definitely doing this again next year as a kid’s project. Thanks to everybody that contributed.I am challenging all the kids to save their change to help take care of the little boy that's been adopted through Compassion. We need to help Enmanuel. He's just turned 9 yrs. old and lives in the Dominican Republic with his mom, stepdad, and siblings. Bring me your money the last Sunday?every month and we'll make Enmanuel our kid's project and work on this together. Please keep bringing in your donations for Operation Christmas?Child. We only have a couple more months to collect and then we'll be packing shoeboxes! PARTY TIME!!!The big bucket on the back church table is very empty. It's for kid’s ministry to use however we see fit.?The money?in the bucket during VBS?was used for the Bibles. Thanks for the contributions. Thanks for your donations of school supplies for the KW school kids. Everything was greatly appreciated. Please be sure to keep up with "kid stuff" in the bulletin. Don't want you to miss anything!kiddie korner (continued)PBJTI want to thank Terri Previs for helping me at PBJT. We have been seeing?a lot of new faces in the last few months and I appreciate all the donations we have been getting. You can always get in touch with me if you want to give stuff when I'm not open. (543-7602). If you know of anybody that needs us, give them my #. I want to thank Hope for starting this ministry almost 6 yrs. ago and inviting me in to help her. She's gotten?busy so I'm taking over with Terri's help. We're still going to be here to serve the Lord and the community.Blessings,Bobbie? Youth in the News September 2015The Lord brought us back home from our mission trip safely! We had an exciting week meeting back up with many of the great people we met last year and a lot of new ones too. There were 13 youth, 3 mini-mission kids and 5 adults attending camp from Sharon Baptist Church this year. They worked on wheelchair ramps, playgrounds, roofs, painting, gardening & landscaping, plumbing and more! Every day we were involved in worship and devotional time focusing on our theme scripture for the week – Joshua 1:9:“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” – NIVThe mini-mission kids (ages 0-12 yrs.) were 42 in number! They had V.B.S. style activities and also made lion heads from tree rounds as gifts for each church that participated in camp as well as for each of the homeowners that received help throughout the week.We offer our deepest gratitude to Nancy, Bettie & Bobbie for coming with us this year!
