Leala L., Stephanie L., Erika M., Niki N., Natali P., Haiying W., Sally W.Absent: Margarita R., Brandi S., Sasha W.Call to Order: Joint Home & School and School Council: 6:30pm School Council: 7:00pmPrincipal Report/UpdatesPrincipal Campbell shared upcoming events including Christmas concerts, Grade 3 Gifted Screening, and Parent/Teacher InterviewsMrs. Abu-Jazar has been hired for Mrs. Morrissey’s grade 7 classroom; Mrs. Murray has accepted a head-secretary promotion at another school (staffing for her replacement is underway)Thank you to Mrs. Kirmse for overseeing the student mural near the gymThis year’s learning goal is for students to communicate in writing and orally how they know an answer by providing evidence (ie: texts, graphics or solutions to math problems) Approval of Agenda:The Agenda for today’s meeting was distributed and approved. Erica suggested moving up the School Travel Plan after School Code of Conduct due to possible time constraints. All in favour.Approval of Minutes:The minutes from the last meeting dated, October 9, 2019, were approved.Agenda Item: Clara Brenton School Code of ConductThe School Code of Conduct was disseminated and reviewed at the meeting. Principal Campbell suggested making the language more positive in tone for students and to organized it according to Clara Brenton’s four rules: Be Kind, Be Prepared, Be Safe, Ask for Help When Needed. As per Board policy, the document must also include information on cell phone and cannabis use. School Council Members worked on reviewing and editing the document during the meeting and gave feedback to Principal Campbell. Action: Principal Campbell will draft a smaller version and work with School Council at the December meeting to revise and finalize the School Code of Conduct for 2019/2020.Agenda Item: Arrival and Dismissal Safety / School Travel Plan WalkaboutErika mentioned that Ward 8 Councillor, Steve Lehman, will be attending Clara Brenton for a walkabout on November 21, 2019 at either 9:30 or 3:30. Erika will finalize times and will reach out to the school nurse to ensure they are in attendance. Jillian has said that the parking lot has been plowed better this year; Vice-Principal Neal stated that the Board hired a new company. Erika mentioned that the city is now issuing parking tickets electronically. Jillian said the city will measure the bushes by the walkway (at the front of the school – going to Wembley Rd) and inform the neighbours if they need to cut back their bushes. Action: Erika and Natalie will be in attendance at the walkabout on November 21, 2019. Principal Campbell is going to put up a sign again at the top of the stairs that back onto the hill to inform people of the hazardous conditions. Principal Campbell will try to get a city-drafted letter explaining the new electronic parking tickets and disseminate to the parents. Agenda Item: Tech Talk Information SessionThe event will be held at Clara Brenton on November 19, 2019 from 6:30-7:30. Three employees from the Board will be presenting on School Messenger, Parent Portal and Google Suite/Google Classroom; Mrs. Lloyd will do a presentation on Raz Kids (reading program). Child care is being provided by Home and School; parents will be asked to RSVP if they require childcare. Action: Principal Campbell will update the sign in front of the school, send a letter home, have teachers put a sticker in the planners and send information through School Messenger regarding this event. Agenda Item: Sensory Hallway KitDue to the lack of space in the Kindergarten hallway, and in general throughout the school, plus the cost and maintenance, Principal Campbell decided that a sensory hallway kit would not be feasible at Clara Brenton. Action: All in favour to remove the sensory hallway kit from discussion.
