DRAFT OF CONSTITUTION FOR IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY THEATRE

Article I Name:

The name of this organization shall be Iowa State University Theatre.

Article II Purpose & Goals:

Section One:

The purpose of this organization is to provide theatre and musical theatre experiences for Iowa State students. This is accomplished in two ways.

First, ISU Theatre provides viewing experiences through each academic year for ISU students (at significantly reduced ticket prices).

Second, ISU Theatre provides opportunities for ISU students to be actively involved in theatre through acting, design, technical, promotional and business/management opportunities in the arts. In addition to volunteer opportunities, ISU Theatre employs ISU students as scene shop assistants, costume shop assistants, promotion and publicity assistants, box office manager, and house manager. These employees come from across the University colleges and majors.

Section Two:

Iowa State University Theatre abides by and supports established Iowa State University policies, State and Federal Laws.

Article III Membership:

Section One:

Iowa State University Theatre does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, age, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, sex, marital status, disability, or status as a U.S. Veteran.

Section Two:

Membership shall be open to all registered students at Iowa State University. As a member, one is required to participate (either on-stage or off-stage) in one ISU Theatre production per academic year.

Article IV Officers:

Election of Officers:

Election of officers (excluding treasurer) follows the submission of a formal application to ISU Theatre executive committee including a vita stipulating the cumulative GPA and a short essay on what the applicant hopes to accomplish during his/her term of office. These materials must be submitted in 2130 Pearson Hall by 5:00 p.m. on the first Friday in April.

Members of the ISU Theatre executive committee are each given copies of the applications and meet to vote on a date no later than the last Friday of April. Members of the ISU Theatre executive committee are allowed to vote only if they have read every application. A paper ballot is used for voting. A simple majority vote elects the officer.

Replacement of officers follows the above procedure.

Term of Office:

Once elected, an officer may remain in office until graduation from ISU, a resignation from that office, evidence of a minimum GPA, or misconduct.

Officer/Adviser Removal:

Officers may be removed from office by ½ vote of the other officers and ¾ vote of the general membership if actions are deemed inappropriate by the membership. The officer is permitted to speak before the Executive Committee and the general membership about the charges made concerning his/her performance. The officer is not permitted to participate in the deliberation of the Executive Committee regarding the changes.

Qualifications to be an Officer:

The officers of this organization must meet the following requirements:

a) Have a minimum cumulative grade point ratio (GPA) as stated below and meet that minimum GPA in the semester immediately prior to the election/appointment, the semester of election/appointment and semesters during the term of office. For undergraduate students, the minimum GPA is 2.00. In order for this provision to be met, at least six hours (half-time credits) must have been taken for the semester under consideration.

b) Be in good standing with the university and enrolled at least half time (six or more credit hours), if an undergraduate student (unless fewer credits are required to graduate in the spring and fall semesters) during the term of office, and at least half time (four or more credits), if a graduate level student (unless fewer credits are required in the final stages of their degree as defined by the Continuous Registration Requirement) during their term of office.

c) Be ineligible to hold an office should the student fail to maintain the requirements as prescribed in (a) and (b).

The Treasurer of ISU Theatre shall be the Budget Director of the Performing Arts and shall be exempt from the above rules.
