Interpreting Your DARS Audit

The College of Business is excited to help Iowa State University implement the degree audit reporting system—DARS. We are the first college at ISU to pilot this system with such a large number of students, and one of two colleges with all its curricula programmed into the system.

DARS is used at many other institutions. The program includes a web-based component that will be dynamic and up-to-date. The finished product will ultimately replace the current degree audits (sometime in the future), so your input to improve this new product is significant and appreciated.

Please share your comments and questions with your advisor.

Special Tips to Help Navigate Through the DARS Audit:

Legend:

o A legend is located at the end of the audit. Use the legend to define the codes found throughout the audit.

o Common codes:

▪ CUR = currently enrolled course

▪ REG = currently registered course

▪ OK = requirement complete

▪ NO = requirement not complete

▪ IP = requirement in progress

▪ + = sub-requirement complete

▪ - = sub-requirement not complete

▪ T4 = transfer credit from a 4-year college

▪ T2 = transfer credit from a 2-year college

▪ >D = designated repeat course

Heading:

o Includes the date the audit was prepared, your student ID number, name, major, catalog year, and type of bachelor degree (if your major is currently Pre-Bus or Bus U, it will say “Non Degree,” because you cannot graduate with either of these majors—once you declare a business major, this will change to “Bachelor of Science”).

First Box (left side):

o Includes pertinent information such as class standing, total credits, deficiency points, drops remaining, designated repeat credits used, Pass/Not Pass credits, advisor’s name, option declared (for pre-bus students)

Pre-Business Students Only:

o Criteria for admission into the Business Professional Program are listed on page 1.

Students Already Admitted Into Business Professional Program Only:

o Double majors (if applicable) are listed on the same audit.

o Graduation requirements are listed at the end of the audit (before the legend).

Miscellaneous Information for All Students:

o If a course can be dual assigned (i.e. used to fulfill more than one requirement), the course will be placed in the accurate location on the audit.

o Elective credits are split into appropriate number of required non-business electives and additional electives
