OUR HISTORY

The UWI is the oldest, fully regional institution of higher learning in the Commonwealth Caribbean.

The UWI began at the Mona Campus, Jamaica, in 1948 as a College of the University of London; and in 1962 achieved full university status. The St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad and Tobago was established in 1961 and in 1963 a third Campus was established at Cave Hill in Barbados. In 2008 The University established a fourth Campus – The Open Campus – to better manage and expand multi‐mode delivery of its programmes.

OUR FACULTIES

The seven faculties of The UWI offer a wide range of Undergraduate, Master’s and Doctoral programmes in Food and Agriculture, Humanities and Education, Engineering, Law, Medical and Veterinary Sciences, Science and Technology; and Social Sciences. Several of these programmes are delivered through the distance mode.

The Procurement Unit

The Procurement Unit is a new Unit and is expected to provide direct support to the Faculties, Departments, Institutes, Units and other user Departments with respect to strategic sourcing and optimization of procurement process. This Unit will be involved in policy making, monitoring, evaluation, and coordination to improve operational efficiencies.

The Unit will work directly with the user Departments to identify opportunities to decrease procurement costs and will collaborate with the Bursary and the Campus Procurement Committee to provide oversight of procurement at the Campus.

Procurement Services Manager

The Procurement Services Manager would be responsible for coordinating the centralized system for the purchasing/procurement of equipment, supplies and services used within The UWI. The individual would provide direction for the Faculties, Departments and Units and other user Departments to identify opportunities to decrease procurement costs and supports Senior Management in decision making to ensure an efficient and cost effective purchasing method. The individual would be required to coordinate third party relationships with contractors, suppliers and other members of the supply chain.

Qualifications/Experience

• A Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) professional designation and/or a Masters Degree or equivalent

• At least five (5) years’ experience in supply chain management and tendering with at least three (3) years at a supervisory level

Duties of the appointee:

The appointee will be required to:

• Plan, organize and supervise the procurement of equipment, materials, supplies, works and services in accordance with the University’s Procurement Policies and Procedures and the Financial Code and Procedures

• Provide policy guidance to management on procurement initiatives

• Monitor and evaluate the process for the acquisition of goods , services and works

• Develop strategies and systems to achieve cost savings target

• Ensure compliance with the University’s Procurement Policies and Procedures Manual

• Maintain and update the University’s List of Pre-Qualified Suppliers and Contractors

• Co-ordinate bulk buying and preferred customer discounts for the University and develop systems and processes for centralised procurement

• Assist with contract negotiations and management in collaboration with the Campus Legal Office and other key stakeholders

• Assist Budget Holders in the implementation of the University’s Procurement Policies and Procedures Manual

• Co-ordinate procurement training for staff

• Provide reports to management on procurement savings and strategies on an as needed basis

REMUNERATION PACKAGE

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE:

Lecturer Level: Minimum: TT$239,544

Maximum: TT$333,456

BENEFITS:

• Special allowance of 6% of basic salary;

• Transportation Allowance of TT$3,250 per month;

• Up to five economy class passages plus baggage allowance of US$3,000.00 (TT$ equivalent) on appointment and normal termination;

• Unfurnished accommodation at 10% or furnished at 12½% of basic salary, or housing allowance of 20% of basic salary to staff making own housing arrangements;

• UWI contribution of equivalent of 10% of basic salary to Superannuation Scheme;

• Annual Study and Travel Grant (available after first year of service); -TT$20,717.00 per annum

• Institutional Visit Allowance – TT$ 7,200.00 per annum

• Book Grant – TT$6,000 per annum

• Contributory Health Insurance - 50%

• UWI Group Life Insurance
