Purpose of the New Role: The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to teaching and research within the School and contribute to centrally provided Quantitative Research Methods training across the Faculty of Social Science (Q-Step affiliated)

| |required, including undertaking personal tutorials at UG and PG levels. The role holder may be required to attend the | |

| |Year 1 Field class in the Lake District during the Easter vacation. | |

| |The role holder will undertake a successful research programme within the School of Geography, in line with the overall | |

| |research strategy. | |

| |Devise grant applications to external bodies to fund new research. | |

| |Conduct and supervise others conducting original research, resulting in publications in nationally and internationally | |

| |recognised peer reviewed journals. | |

| |Participation in meetings, conferences and seminars, prepare research presentations and papers to disseminate research | |

| |findings. | |

The Purpose of the New Role:

The role holder will be expected to play a central role in the Faculty-wide provision of Quantitative Research Methods across the social sciences (in the context of the Q-Step Affiliate Status initiative). Additionally, the role holder will be expected to contribute to teaching at all levels within the School of Politics and International Relations, from Year 1 to Year 4, as required, including undertaking personal tutorials at UG and PG levels.

Main Responsibilities:

• Conduct and supervise others conducting original research, resulting in publications in nationally and internationally recognised peer reviewed journals and/ or monographs published with university or other renowned presses

• To disseminate research findings at conferences, workshops and meetings

• To seek and secure external research funding

• Plan and deliver high quality taught modules to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

• Supervise BA and MA dissertations

• Supervise postgraduate research students

• To examine assessments for first and higher degrees as required

• To provide pastoral support to personal tutees

• To contribute fully to School administration, as specified by the Head of School

• To undertake further training consistent with continuous professional development

• To work in a professional manner with other staff in the School and University

• Any other duties as requested by the Head of School appropriate to the role and level
