Chapter 2
God and the Holy Trinity
Day 1 – God is self-existent and does not need the creation. He is above it in every way.
Read 2.1
Scripture: Psalm 90:1-2
Questions:
Who made God?
Does God need us because he is lonely? How do we know God was not lonely before he created the world?
Catechism:
Q. Are there more gods than one?
A. No, there is only one God.
Hymn: “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise”

Day 2 – God is invisible and doesn’t have a body or parts or changeable human emotions.
Read 2.1
Scripture: 1 Timothy 1:17
Questions:
If God is invisible, how could people see Jesus?
Do you sometimes wish God were visible?
If you tried to draw God, how accurate would it be? (Ex. 20:4-5)
Catechism:
Q. What is God?
A. God is Spirit and does not have a body like men.
Q. Where is God?
A. God is everywhere.
Q. Can you see God?
A. No, I cannot see God but he always sees me.

Day 3 – Everything we have comes from God.
Read 2.2
Scripture: 2 John 5:26; Rev. 5:11-14
Questions:
Why should we worship God?
Why should we pray to God?
Why should we obey God?
Catechism:
Q. Does God know all things?
A. Yes, nothing can be hid from God.
Q. Can God do all things?
A. Yes, God does all his holy will.
Hymn: “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing”

Day 4 – God is one God in three persons—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Read 2.3
Scripture: Matt. 28:19-20; 2 Cor. 13:14
Questions:
Is the Trinity a contradiction? Why not?
Do the Father, Son, and Spirit have different goals?
How does each of the three persons contribute to our salvation?
Catechism:
Q. In how many persons does this one God exist?
A. In three persons.

Day 5 – The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit relate to one another in specific ways each according to His own role.

Scripture: John 14:9-20
Questions:
How does the Father relate to the Son?
How does the Spirit relate to the Father and the Son?

Q. Who are they?
A. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
