BELIEFS

The beliefs held by a local church will define the ministry of that church. To minister as Jesus Christ desires, a church must base its beliefs and practices on the truth revealed in God’s word, the Bible. Although it is not feasible to list every aspect of God’s truth, the following “doctrinal statement” outlines the foundational truths held by Community Bible Church. They provide the Biblical parameters within which we function as a local church body.

COMMUNITY BIBLE CHURCH DOCTRINAL STATEMENT

We believe……

1. The purpose of the church shall be the evangelization of the lost and the edification of believers through Bible study and teaching, prayer, worship, fellowship, & service.

(Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; 2:42; Rom. 14:19; Eph. 4:11-16)

2. The Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men & women, and the divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life. (II Tim. 3:16-17; II Pet. 1:20-21)

3. In one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternal, existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

(Deut. 4:35; Isa. 45:5-6; I Cor. 8:6; Jn. 1:1-18; Col. 1:15-20; II Cor. 3:17-18; Acts 5:3-4; Matt. 28:18-19)

4. That the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He died on the cross as a sacrifice for sins, and arose bodily from the dead. He ascended into heaven where at the right hand of God the Father He is now our High Priest and Advocate.

(Lk. 1:35; Rom. 8:34; I Cor. 15:3-4; Phil. 2:5-11; Heb. 4:14-16; 7:25; 10:12-14; I Pet. 2:24; I Jn. 2:1)

5. That the Holy Spirit is the Divine Person who convicts the world of sin; that He brings new life to those who are spiritually dead; that He baptizes (places) all believers into the one true church which is the Body of Christ; that He indwells them permanently, seals them unto the day of redemption, bestows spiritual gifts upon them, and fills (controls) those who are yielding to Him.

(Jn. 3:3-8; 14:16-17; 16:7-11; I Cor. 12:1-31; Eph. 1:13-14; 4:30; 5:18; Titus 3:5)

6. That mankind was created in the image of God. However, mankind fell into sin, and therefore, all people are separated from God by sin. Only through the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ can a person be reconciled to God and receive eternal salvation. (Gen. 1:26-27; 2:16-17; 3:1-24; Rom. 5:8, 12; II Cor. 5:21; Jn. 14:6; Acts 4:12)

7. That salvation is received solely by God’s grace through faith. It cannot be gained by any form of meritorious works, but is a free gift bestowed upon all who place their faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. All who so trust in the Savior are forgiven of their sins and born into the family of God by the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit. Those in whom God has accomplished His transforming work of grace are kept by His power and are secure in Christ forever. It is their privilege to rejoice in the assurance of their salvation.

(Jn. 1:12; 3:16; 5:24; Rom. 3:19-28; 5:1, 17-21; 8:1, 38-39; Eph. 1:7; 2:8-9; Titus 3:5-7; I Jn. 5:11-13)

8. That the true church is composed of all persons who through saving faith in Jesus Christ have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the Body of Christ, of which He is the head.

(Matt. 16:16-18; I Cor. 12:13; Eph. 4:7-16; Col. 1:18)

9. That water baptism and the Lord’s Supper are ordinances to be observed by the church. Believers are called to be baptized as a testimony of their faith in Jesus Christ. The Lord’s Supper is to be observed as a memorial in remembrance of Christ’s sacrificial work on the cross, and is to be observed until Christ returns. However, neither baptism nor partaking of the Lord’s Supper are in any way essential for salvation.

(Matt. 28:19; Rom. 6:3-4; I Cor. 11:23-26)

10. That the local church should be governed by a board of elders as set forth in the Scriptures.

(I Tim. 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; Acts 14:23; I Pet. 5:1-5)

11. In the pretribulational rapture of all dead and living Christians into the air to be with Christ forever, and in the personal and premillennial return of Jesus Christ to earth.

(I Cor. 15:51-52; Phil. 3:20-21; I Thess. 4:13-18; Rev. 3:10; 19:11-16; 20:1-6)

12. In the bodily resurrection of all the dead: of the believer to eternal blessedness and joy with the Lord; of the unbeliever to judgment and eternal conscious punishment.

(Jn. 5:29; I Cor. 15:12-21; 15:35-53; I Thess. 4:13-18; Matt. 25:46; Rev. 20:11-15)
