The textbook used in this course is Algebra 1 by McDougal Littell © 2007. Algebra 1 is also available online through the publisher’s website. This course will follow the curriculum that is provided by the Washoe County School District. This document is available in the office of the Curriculum Vice-Principal at Reed High School or from the Mathematics Citizen’s Advisory Committee. All of the curriculum topics are covered in the textbook; which is used by the entire school district.

ACADEMIC GRADE
Grading scale: 90-100% = A
80-89% = B
70-79% = C
60-69% = D
Below 60% = F
Grade weighting: 45% - Tests
20% - Assignments
20% - Quizzes
15% - Final
ASSIGNMENTS/LABS/PROJECTS
• Homework is assigned daily and due the following day.
• Work must be shown for credit!
• Late assignments will earn late penalties and will only be accepted until the end of the unit.
TESTS
• Students will be given a practice test and an in-class review before each test.
• If a student does not do well on their test they are allowed to retake the test, but must follow these instructions:
o Student must redo the Practice test and show all work. This can require a student to come in at lunch, after school, or go to tutoring for help.
▪ The Practice Test will be checked and must be 100% correct prior to retake.
o The latest students can retake a test is the day prior to the next test.
o Students will not be allowed to retake a test once they have taken the next unit test.
o Retakes are scheduled at lunch or after school, not during class.
o Students must check with Mrs. Landrum to find available times for retake.
CLASSROOM PROCEEDURES:
• Be on time to class.
o This includes being in your seat when the bell rings and have your green sheet ready for warm-ups. If you are not following these you will be asked to get a tardy pass.
• Pencils are to be used on all tests and quizzes and is recommended for all homework and notes.
• Upon entering the classroom:
o look for instructions on the board
o get out your homework and class materials
o Complete your warm-up.
• Raise hand and talk when appropriate
• Bring needed materials
• Behave appropriately
• Take notes and write down examples.
• Participate in all activities.
• Begin homework if time allows.
• Cell Phones are not to be seen or heard during class. Students will be sent to SRO if phone is seen or heard no matter if they are using it or not.
• Drinks are allowed, but must have a lid or screw on top.
• Small snacks are a privilege and the privilege can be suspended or revoked if abused.
• Stay seated until the bell, follow your teacher’s instructions for clean-up and wait to be dismissed by your teacher.
MAKE-UP WORK
• Notes – you are responsible for making up notes. Filled in notes sheets are available on the class website.
• Assignments – you are responsible for assignments missed when absent. You are given two days to turn in any missed assignments, if you are having trouble with this deadline you must talk with Mrs. Landrum Before the deadline.
o It is the student’s responsibility to get missing work and turn it in on time.
• Chapter Quizzes – no make-up (as long as you have an excused absence), no grade deduction
• Chapter Tests – if you miss a test you will make it up in class during the next class period or at teacher discretion.
ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE
• Mrs. Landrum are available after school and at lunch to help support students. This schedule changes often, so see the weekly schedule for when they are available.
• Tutoring is offered in the Library Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:45 to 4:15.
• Notes can be made at both for parents to be aware of when and what students are doing for tutoring.
ATTENDANCE AND TARDIES
• Attend class each day. Students who have 10 or more absences will receive an “F” in the course.
• Be in your seat when the tardy bell rings. Tardies will affect your citizenship grade. 0-1 A, 2 B, 3 C, 4 D, 5 or more F. You will also receive a detention for each tardy.
• If you are absent for any reason it is your responsibility to make up the work you missed.
CITIZENSHIP GRADE
Tardies, behavior, participation, and attitude will determine your citizenship grade.
• Cell phones must be turned off and put out of sight during class. If out you will be sent to SRO with an Electronics Violation.
• Students are expected to behave in class and follow school and classroom rules. Students who disrupt the learning of others and fail to abide by the rules will be given a verbal warning, detention, or sent to the Student Relations Office. Parents will also be contacted.
• Make sure that you are abiding by the rules set forth in the student handbook.
SUPPLIES
• Three-ring binder with section dividers and tabs.
• Extra sharpened pencils (or mechanical pencils) and notebook paper.
• Note: Calculators are NOT allowed in Algebra 1.
- Suggestions for Success -
Do your own homework; copying does not prepare you for success. Be prepared daily with supplies. Actively be involve in the lesson, listen carefully when the teacher is talking. Please don’t be afraid to ask questions or seek help ASAP. I am available by appointment (room 211) for extra help.
