08/2015 - 07/2018

Hours per week: 41

QC Lab Technician / Administrative Assistant Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:

I am responsible for the sampling, culturing, developing and reading the results of testing from all areas in company for salmonella. When a positive result is found I serotype the salmonella to determine the next action for remediation and cleanup. I perform on a daily basis Mycoplasma or serum blood testing of birds, vaccine, avian influenza tests on AGID, hatchery premise checks for bacteria and fungus,

Pseudomonas from water or swabs, coliform from water, sending reports, making sampling lists, labeling swabs for sample collection, making media, recording data in logs, correctly labeling samples, general maintenance and disinfecting of work spaces. Lab responsibilities also include collecting and processing samples from farms, feed mills, and buildings associated with Hubbard in Tennessee, South Carolina, and Alabama. I provide the company with information for our international customers and our management staff to maintain and improve their sanitation and biohazard prevention programs.

Hubbard Hatchery LLC is an international company parented by Groupe Grimaud in France that produces chicken intended for sale in a variety of consumer markets. This company is biohazard conscious and multiple procedures are required to prevent the introduction of disease into the workplace. Hubbard produces and distributes chicks and eggs throughout the United States and various international markets. At Hubbard I perform multiple tasks; I complete all the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) documentation, to assure government requirements are satisfied for the safe transportation of the hatchery chicks. Every piece of information is security sensitive and must be compiled and organized without error. I am responsible for a critical process called the Hatch Folder, which requires multiple steps to be performed in a timely manner. I take data on hatch production and create and distribute findings to other departments to facilitate shipments and accuracy of customer orders. I also create a report for supervisors to plan when and how to distribute eggs and time of hatch. The report specifies different breeds, companies they will ship to, and future broiler or chicken availability. I compile and create reports on mortality rates from chicken growers. This report is critical in determining how to correct our process, and determine where issues may have occurred. Truck boxes are another task I have. I prepare and assure that all shipments of chicks or eggs have the documentation required by the State of TN, and USDA. I prepare and monitor temperature recorders that are used to assure temperature sensitivity during shipping. I compile the data from the recorders, analyze and report my findings. I fill in at the front desk and assist the public, answer phones, take messages and sign in visitors. I have organized and set up CPR/AED classes for all factory employees. Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:

I had MOCC boat safety training and CPR/First Aid Training at the start of this job. On this job I worked with the threatened and endangered species the Piping Plover and Least Tern. I worked directly with the Fish and Wildlife Service to complete the research and other tasks related to the Audubon National Wildlife Refuge. I learned how to record many types of data, enter into Access database, work with many different crew members and educate the public. I worked on the Alkali lakes on Audubon National Wildlife Refuge and other lakes in surrounding areas in North Dakota. The land is divided into segments where I learned how to spot and stalk for any signs of birds, scrapes, nests, tracks, shell fragments, etc. I learned how to properly check eggs for cracks or pipping, float them to show age, and enter necessary data about the nest and the parent birds around it. I learned how to operate and trap birds using a walk-in trap and a bow net trap. I was certified for the project to handle and band chicks and adults. I used equipment like Arc GIS for map reference, a hand-held weight scale, soldering iron, pliers for spreading bands, float cup, spotting scopes and binoculars. I am able to take benchmarks to obtain the height above sea level of the nests of the birds. I have worked with many coworkers at a time and can adapt quickly to changing plans and situations. I have also worked unsupervised in remote locations. This job took place in extreme conditions with long hours and comp time available.

09/2014 - 07/2015

Salary: 12.00 USD Per Year

Hours per week: 35

Stream Management Specialist

Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:

I analyzed with data and field work. For data I used Arc Map and Excel to calculate the average percent impervious of sub-watersheds that drain into the Obed watershed. I looked through the data and on the maps to find the sub-watersheds that pertained to the average. I helped find a percentage of water runoff or the inability for the surrounding environment to handle, absorb and keep water flowing through the watershed due to changing environments and infrastructure. I also went into the field and help install revetments. The stream is surveyed for where revetments are needed. Metal duck head clips are put into the side of the bank manually with pole drivers. I spaced them so they will hold the revetment which is cedar trees wrapped in coir, a coconut fiber netting. The trees will break down slowly meanwhile collecting debris and creating a more natural stream bank and flow. I also help manage the Facebook page and publicity for events. I create posts and encourage outreach.

Volunteer

Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:

To become a volunteer I had to go to a training session to learn about the ecology of sea turtles. The Georgia sea turtle Center has an educational area and a sea turtle rehabilitation hospital. As a volunteer I saw and learned about both of those places in depth. I have bee on a sea turtle walk, witnessed a mother turtle coming to lay her eggs and another time seeing a nest that was hatching. I also worked with their app to pick up litter on the beach and log it. This was part of a huge public campaign to keep the beaches and waterways clean. In other jobs I learned further about shorebird research and monitoring. I got real world experience in protecting endangered animals and the ecosystem they live in.

I also assisted Resource Management Specialist Lillian McElrath on various projects. One was marking the border of the park using GPS, installing metal signs and markers. Another project was Private Roads Project which entailed using GPS to collect the “track data” of the road, document the road through photography, and update computerized maps showing the road. A third project was spraying the plant Galax with a solution to prevent it from being poached. I assisted her and another team of scientists conducting field studies and collecting small mammal specimens in marsh wooded areas (mice/ marsh voles). Another task was assisting Ranger Bill Rodriguez, who has since transferred to Cape Hatteras National Seashore, with salamander and fishing programs. Additional Information:

Additional Information:

I can type 40 words per minute. I have used Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. I have used Access databases and software like Copia and Orchard. I can error check data to ensure its correctness. I also know basic computer functions, am familiar with use of the internet and email systems.

I worked at SEPA Labs which had a large volume of courier and samples come through each day. I would accession the specimens for all departments; histology, cytology, and microbiology. I then set up the specimens, a time sensitive task, so technicians the next day could read them. I learned a great amount of interesting information at SEPA and it was a great experience. I am a fast learner and a hard worker.

I have used GPS to collect and organize data into computer programs such as GIS. I have observed, recorded, and identified animal and plant species. I worked with a variety of animals studying their behavior, habitat condition, and population census. I have worked with weeds and monitored the effects of treatments on plants. I have learned and applied these tasks from working, volunteering on The Blue Ridge Parkway, Glacier National Park, Citizen Science, Geographic Information Systems mapping program, Fort Pulaski National Monument, Volunteer USGS insect collecting, science projects and Undergraduate Research from my schooling. I have attended a training session for Project WILD and Project WILD Flying and Aquatic. This program provides curriculum and activities to teach students grade K-12 about "the environment they share with wildlife." My high school and Georgia Southern University B.A. in Biology degree have prepared me for field work and summarizing scientific data. I learned how to sample organisms, observe and access their ecology and environment. I learned how to compile the data and present it in a meaningful, informative fashion. (See Transcripts)
