Inflation – Increased prices and a fall in the value of money

Mein Kampf – ‘My Struggle’. A book written by Hitler while in prison setting out his main ideas

Occupy/Occupation – To take possession or seize something

Passive (Resistance) – To offer no resistance

Putsch – An armed uprising. An attempt to seize power by force

Ruhr – The most important industrial area within Germany in terms of coal and steel production

Reparations – Payments (compensation) made to those countries that were victorious during World War One by those countries which lost

Stormtroopers (Strum Abteilung, Brownshirts, S.A.) – A force of men set up by Hitler and the Nazis to intimidate opposition
