Michigan Teacher of the Year Program OverviewOn behalf of the State Board of Education, State Superintendent Dr. Michael F. Rice, the State Board of Education, and the Michigan Department of Education, I would like to offer a heartfelt congratulations on your nomination for 2021-22 Michigan Teacher of the Year (MTOY).The MTOY program selects ten applicants each year, one from each region across Michigan, to serve as Regional Teachers of the Year during the 2021-22 school year. Each Regional Teacher of the Year will interview to become the 2021-22 Michigan Teacher of the Year in mid-April 2021.To be eligible to apply for Michigan Teacher of the Year, you must meet all the following:Have a current, valid Michigan teaching certificate.At least five successful years of teaching experience in Michigan.Work directly with students in their current role.Willing to commit to active membership on the Michigan Teacher Leadership Advisory Council (MTLAC) during the 2021-22 school year if selected as a Regional Teacher of the Year.All completed applications will be read and scored by reviewers representing different educational stakeholders across the state. Applicants with the highest scores in each region become regional semifinalists and will be asked to complete the Part B of the MTOY application to continue in the process. The top scorer in each region following scoring of Part B becomes that region’s 2021-22 Teacher of the Year.Below is Part A of the MTOY application. All nominees who wish to be considered for Michigan Teacher of the Year must submit their completed Part A to MTOY@ no later than 5:00 p.m., Eastern Standard Time, on Monday, December 14, 2020. Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted. It is the responsibility of the applicant to submit their materials as a PDF.
