|Lesson objective(s): Students will be able to – |

|Demonstrate touch key method to type letters on the home row with 85% accuracy. |

|Use/Access new technology resources, Alice, to review keyboarding instruction, scoring 40pts. |

|Predict which fingers will be used to type new, non-home row keys. |

|Prepare a list of words that include new keys/letters to show relevance. |

|Demonstrate touch key method to type E, N, U, T with 75% accuracy. |

|Differentiation strategies to meet diverse learner needs: |

|Lower performing students may pair with another student to complete exercises. They will complete their application/exercises of new keys on |

|BELL RINGER |

|Students will go to website, , and complete a 5 minute keying warm-up. (Beginner, home row keys) |

|Students should record answers from progress report (GWAM, # errors, problem keys) on daily progress sheet. |

|ENGAGEMENT |

|Announce to students that you have a new, 3-D animated game you’d like one of them to play. Ask students to raise their hand to volunteer. |

|Have one student play teacher made game (Keyboarding Review) in Alice Worlds. Display game on overhead projector. |

|After game has been completed, announce to students that everyone will have an opportunity to play it at the end of class. |

|Follow-up with students to check for understanding of the review seen in the game. Ex) Have students hold up the finger that would be used to type the letter |

|A. What finger would be used to type the letter K? Continue until all home row keys have been reviewed. |

|EXPLORATION/EXPLANATION |

|Announce to students that we will be learning 4 new alphabetic keys today. They are E, N, U, T. |

|Have students locate these keys on their keyboards. Write in these new letters on their blank keyboard printout. |

|Have students predict which fingers will be used to type these new keys. |

|Go over correct answers. Students label new letters on their keyboarding hands printout. |

|Have students write down COMMON words that use any or all of these letters (2 minutes, at least 3 words per letter). |

|Teacher takes volunteers and writes 5+ words for each letter on the board. Discuss relevance and importance of being able to accurately and efficiently use |

|these keys. |

|ELABORATION/PRACTICE |

|Students will login to keyboarding software, Microtype. Begin lessons for letters E, N, U, T. |

|Teacher observes students to ensure proper keying technique and tough methods are being used. |

|EVALUATION |

|Students should email teach progress report of lessons E, N, U, T. If not completed, they should complete during Bell Ringer the following day and email upon |

|completion. |

|Students open and use Alice software to play “Typing Review” game that has been saved on their desktop. Their version includes todays keys along with the home|

|row keys. Student must score 40 or more points. They may repeat game as needed. |
