STUDENT REFLECTION CHECKLIST

BCEC might be a good fit for me if... ____ I am a motivated student and I enjoy learning new things. ____ I have been a steady student throughout middle school. ____ I like a rigorous schedule and would like to be challenged by taking all academic courses each semester. ____ I am interested in taking college courses and earning college credits in a supportive learning environment. ____ I plan to go to a four year university & would like to earn 2 years of free college credits before transferring there. ____ Earning two years of free college credits before graduating from high school would make college affordable for me. ____ I have the academic potential/ability & skills to read college texts beginning in 9th grade. ____ I am not interested in band or chorus classes at my high school. ____ I may be interested in taking college art, drama & music classes. ____ I like the idea of being part of a small school where the teachers get to know me well. ____ I like the idea of meeting students from different Buncombe County Schools and making new friends. I would still make time to be with my current friends. ____ I get along well with others and enjoy working in groups to learn. ____I have the maturity and self-control to be on a college campus beginning in 9th grade. ____ I am willing to commit to doing at least 90+ minutes of homework each evening so that I can be successful in my high school & college courses.

The district high school might be a good fit for me if... ____ I am a motivated student and I enjoy learning new things. ____ I am not quite ready for a full academic schedule and would prefer the traditional HS schedule of two academic courses and two elective courses each semester. ____ I need to get stronger in math and/or reading skills, so it would help me to have four years of preparation before beginning college classes. ____ I am interested in taking Advanced Placement courses (for potential college credits) and honors courses at the high school. ____I would like to go to a four year university and don't mind waiting to earn a lot of college credits. ____ Band, chorus, and/or theater are important to me and I want to continue in these programs at the high school. ____ I am interested in taking technical/vocational courses at the high school. These courses may include drafting, horticulture, business, family consumer sciences ? Ex. Foods & Clothing. ____ I am interested in JROTC. ____ I am excited thinking about my high school and being part of a large student body. ____ I like the idea of high school pep rallies, student newspapers & clubs. ____I have some very close friends who I would like to be with every day at school. ____ I don't have difficulty learning in a classroom with 25+ students.
