sophomore year, the College Credit Now Guideway regarding Dual Enrollment opportunities is completed via the

GaCollege411 website with the assistance of school counselors. Two valuable resources are GaCollege411

and The College Board's Big Future bigfuture. websites. Below is a checklist

to make certain that you continue to take the right steps to be successful throughout high school and make the right choice

for your post secondary decision:

Review your grade point average. Your GPA counts! The high school transcript has both a numeric as well as a 4.0 grade point average. Class rank uses the numeric grade point average. Link:

Check the HOPE gpa on GaCollege411 on your My411 account. Remember all academic courses count both required and elective courses including an academic work-based learning course(s). Also remember no middle school academic courses count. Again, no middle school courses taken for high school credit are calculated in the HOPE gpa.

Motivate! Encourage yourself to enroll in challenging courses as well as pathway courses of interest in one or more of these areas: Career, Technical and Agricultural Education, Fine Arts, World Language or Advanced Academic Pathways in English, Mathematics, Science or Social Studies

10.8.4 Stay Organized! Think about setting personal goals for academic achievement as well as developing good organizational skills.

10.8.5 Plan to attend the PROBE Fair. This is an annual opportunity where both parents and students can speak directly with military, technical school and college/university representatives.

10.8.7 Remember, the counselors in the counseling office are available to help you. Contact the counselor regarding any of your questions or concerns.

10.9.8 Go to the Fair! Attend the PROBE Fair held at one of the district high schools. Location is announced during August.

Meet with your counselor regarding Dual Enrollment/College Credit Now plans for your junior year, if applicable. Some of the college orientations are as early as mid-September for the next school year. Consider registering for the SAT or ACT, if this opportunity is in your student's future. 10.9.10 Reflect upon how course work is going including any major project deadlines.

10.9.11 Begin or continue with extra-curricular activities. Think about what you have learned from these experiences especially in identifying personal abilities, aptitudes and interests.

Review the PSAT/NMSQT bulletin, so you will know about the PSAT taken by all sophomores in mid-October. Counselors prepare students for this test opportunity during classroom guidance. There is a no cost for this test for sophomores. Link:

10.10.13 Talk with your parent/guardian about the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) this month (always a mid-October test on a Wednesday). Link for PSAT:

Get Going! Complete the Dual Enrollment/College Credit Now Guideway on GaCollege411. This BRIDGE advisement task is facilitated by the school counselor. In addition, you student update your BRIDGE Graduation Plan. This plan is in your My 411 portfolio on GACollege411 and on that website is known as the Individual Graduation Plan. Both the Dual Enrollment task and updating the IGP are BRIDGE Law requirements. In Georgia, it is the law that both parent and student review this plan annually and the parent approves this plan. The BRIDGE advisement opportunity occurs in either January or February at the high school.

Plan to attend the mandated by Georgia law, BRIDGE Advisement session at the high school with your parent/guardian. Your BRIDGE graduation plan also known as the Individual Graduation plan in GaCollege411 is updated. Valuable information is presented during this opportunity. Again, this event is held at the high school in January or the first part of February. Participate in the College and Career Fair held at Paulding County High School. This is an additional opportunity after the PROBE Fair that was held in September to meet with college, university and technical college admissions representatives. Military representatives are also present. Think about testing-out of up to three EOC courses. The school district website along with school counselors have information during December, January and early February should you have questions.

Attend the BRIDGE Advisement opportunity at the high school. Review the Career Planner, a district planning guide (Link: ) Topics covered during this parent/student event are: Individual Graduation Plan in GaCollege411 ? Required by Georgia Law that a parent/guardian approves the plan. Also, included is the course request information for your student for the junior year. PSAT Results Dual Enrollment/College Credit Now GaCollege411 Website Overview Be certain to complete the Honors/Advanced Placement course registration process via the school district website for next school year. Occupational Outlook Handbook Link: Compare Apples to Oranges! Begin or continue to research and assemble a list of colleges, technical colleges, and/or specialty schools and the similarities and differences between schools. Take the COMPASS test at a Technical College if you are interested in Dual Enrollment at a Technical College next year.

Ask any questions that you have about Advanced Placement exams, if applicable. Consider taking the SAT and/or ACT. Oftentimes, students wait until they are juniors and take one test during the second semester of their junior year unless the student is involved with a Dual Enrollment program. Consider emailing or making an appointment with the counselor if you have questions or concerns regarding next school year.
