30th Annual YOUTH CITIZENSHIP AWARDS David Masci introduced the award ceremony by stressing the important impact our students of today will have on our tomorrow. He noted that the 23 students who will be honored have been chosen by their schools to be exemplary contributors to both their schools and their community. David then introduced those who will present the awards to each student: Mayor Joel Price, County Supervisor Linda Parks, and Conejo Valley Unified School District officials Dr. Ann Bonatibus, Superintendent, Jeanne Valentine, Director of Elementary Education, and James Garza, Director of Secondary Education. He also commended SVUSD Administrative Assistant Kate Potter for bringing the project together. Each student then came to receive their awards as reports of their service contributions were enthusiastically read.

Rotary Club of Thousand Oaks Meeting
May 19, 2016
Past President Carole Freeman explained that President Mike Murphy was litigating a court case that prevented him from attending this week. She then welcomed members and guests to a special Rotary meeting honoring outstanding student citizens and coincidently taking place outside in the beautiful Los Robles Gardens. Carol reminded us that our schools were an important force in our community and the students in these school were our future. She then offered a special welcome to the parents, grandparents, and friends of those students who would be acknowledged shortly for their contributions to their school and to our community. Tony Karounis shared the moment of inspiration and led the group in the Salute to the Flag. Ken Kossoff introduced Doug Meissner from Ameriprise Financial, the guest of Jill Lederer.
FINE SESSION
Finemaster Tammie Helmuth enlisted the aid of some of the students present in asking questions about the meaning of certain text gems like "LOL" and "K." She also asked about the meaning of many emoticons.
