Welcome from our Outgoing President, Stewart Koesten, and our JFS Executive Director, Don Goldman
This year has been busy for Jewish Family Services! We continue to see unprecedented demand for our services, from helping families get back on their feet, to helping older adults live independently, to helping those with mental illness get treatment and support.
At JFS we continue to expand our services and provide new, innovative solutions for all individuals in Kansas City regardless of their religion, ethnic background, or age. Just in the last year alone:
? JFS opened a Food Pantry. We provided over 800 individuals with healthy food, personal care items, and paper goods that food stamps do not cover. Fresh fruits and vegetables come from the Mitzvah Garden and Liberty Fruit, and pet food from VCA Animal Hospitals. We are proud to partner with local synagogues who help keep our pantry fully stocked.
? JFS launched a mental health anti-stigma campaign. Through the pro bono work of BernsteinRein, the Jewish Community Mental Health Coalition, comprised of Jewish Family Services, the Rabbinical Association and committed volunteers and private funders, crafted an 18-month multi-media campaign to reduce the stigma of mental illness. The message? Mental illness. It's real. It's common. It's treatable, and it's OK to talk about it.
? JFS launched Older Adult Care Management for the entire community. The Gould Family Foundation makes Care Management possible for growing numbers of older adults, particularly the poor and underserved, coordinating care that enables them to remain in their homes. We continue to be on the forefront in Kansas City serving older adults.
? With the assistance of the Jewish Community Foundation and our wonderful committee chair, Ann Stern, JFS reached its three year goal for the Bushman Community Endowment program. We are strengthening our agency as we build for the future to ensure that the needs of our community continue to be met.
These services are all made possible through the incredible support of all our funders: Jewish Federation, the Jewish Heritage Foundation, the Menorah Legacy Foundation, and the Jewish Community Foundation as well as the many general community funders, family foundations and individual donors. With your help, JFS will continue to repair the world one person, one family at a time.
