Vacant Office of Deans (Secondary) (Grade 5) in Secondary Schools

The Ministry of Education is inviting suitably qualified persons who are at present employed in the Secondary School System to fill the offices of Dean (Secondary) ? (Grade 5), which are vacant/due to become vacant, in the schools listed in the attached Appendix I

PARTICULARS RELATING TO THE OFFICE OF DEAN (SECONDARY) (Grade 5)

I. ROLE AND CORE FUNCTION

This job requires the incumbent to oversee the implantation of a system for monitoring the academic performance and discipline for a group of students at Secondary schools. Functions also include assisting in the formulation and development of the system and teaching one (1) or more technical vocational subject(s)/subject area/group of subjects to students in Forms 1-6.

II. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

A. Technical Vocational Teacher (Secondary)

Five (5) G.C.E. `O' Level/CXC subjects (General Proficiency level Grades I or II) including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject.

National Technician's Diploma or National Craftsman Certificate (including completion of all options or levels relevant to subject areas(s) taught) or equivalent

Certification in teaching as evidenced by the possession of a Technical Teachers' Diploma or equivalent

Minimum of ten (10) years' experience as a certified Technical Vocational Teacher

B. Teacher III (Secondary)

Bachelor's Degree in an area of specialty from a recognized University

Certification in teaching as evidenced by the possession of a Diploma in Education or equivalent

Four (4) years' experience as a certified Teacher III (Secondary) at a Secondary School

PLUS In-service training in supervisory techniques Sound communication skills Sound classroom management skills Sound human relations skills Sound skills in the observation and analysis of students' behavior Sound planning and organizing skills Sound evaluation and measurement skills Intermediate counseling skills Intermediate supervisory skills Basic computer skills

2. A detailed Job Specification and Description for the office of Dean (Secondary) (Grade 5) are available at the Education District Offices, the Ministry's Head Office and Website.

3. PROCEDURES FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS Applications for the above office should be completed and submitted via the use of an Online Application for promotion to Administrative Offices in the Teaching Service no later than 31st December, 2019, 4 p.m.

Under cover of Circular memorandum, No 18 dated 16th October 2019, a Manual pertaining to the use of the Online Application was issued to schools and is also available on the Ministry's Website for your perusal and guidance.

This online application form can only be processed through the officer's officially assigned Ministry of Education email address.

Principals are advised that Special Report forms and School Profiles can only be uploaded through their official Ministry of Education email address.

Principals and Schools Supervisors must ensure that all application forms are accompanied by the Special Reports, which much be completed and submitted on or before the closing date for applications.

Applicants, Principals and Schools Supervisors are to note that because of the nature of this online system, application and special report forms will not be accessed beyond the stipulated deadline date.

The Schools' Supervisor for each Education District is required to submit School Profile for the Schools identified in this Circular on or before 31st December, 2019.

4. Preference will be given to applicants with work experience in schools where the vacancies exist.

5. At the closing date of this Circular Memorandum, all applicants must satisfy the requirements for the vacant offices mentioned.
