Primary Two Home Learning Pack Name_______This pack has been created to guide learning for the following few weeks. If schools are closed for an extended period of time then teachers will use Google Classrooms to provide learning opportunities and activities. Google Classroom can be accessed via glow. To access this simply type in Glow to google and login. Login details begin ‘gw’ followed by a number and child’s name. The below screen should appear:When you login you should see a screen like this: From this launchpad you can also access a variety of other useful programmes to aid learning.Literacy ActivitiesA mixture of reading, writing, spelling, phonics and grammar activities should be carried out daily. It is recommended that your child completes 5 literacy tasks a week. They should follow a similar routine to in class which would involve a minimum of:Spelling to be completed for at least 20 mins every day2 reading tasks per week1 writing taskHandwritingReadingChildren can use a school book if this has been provided or any age-appropriate book they have at home. In class the children are familiar with the following before, during and after reading strategies and should be able to complete them independently.:Predicting – Look at the front cover and blurb and use the clues to help make a prediction on what the book is about.Connecting- to connect what we know already with the text that we are reading.Questioning – What questions do they have when reading? Summarising – Pick the main points from the book to summarise the story.Scanning – Locate specific details in a text.Skimming- Quickly find out what the text is about. Numeracy and MathsWe would recommend that the children work on numeracy/maths daily. Below are a range of ideas of activities that your child can complete with a list of useful websites to play numeracy/maths games. In the event of the school being closed for an extended period of time work will be assigned the children via Sumdog – this can be tracked by their teacher (logins have been provided).MultiplicationThe children should work on their 2 times table. They could speed write it, see how many they can write in 2 mins. Challenge themselves to beat their score every day. Can they come up with a song to help them remember their times tables?AdditionRevise addition to 20 using concrete materials at home. For example, small toys and objects. You may use the number line at the end of this pack. SubtractionRevise subtraction to 20 using concrete materials at home. As well as completing written sums like 20 – 4 = , you could ask someone at home to ask you some questions. MoneyCollect some coins and give them to your child, ask them to list the coins that you have, ask them to order them from highest to lowest or vice versa. Ask them to find the total amount. Can they make the same amount using different coins? Calculating change was found to be a difficult concept across the class, practise makes perfect!3d ShapesGo on a 2D and 3D shape hunt, write the names of the shapes you find.MeasureMeasure objects around the home and record their length, weight and capacity.Helpful WebsitesThere are lots of brilliant resources to be found online for maths and numeracy.
