STEP 4B: Check the fuel drain line restriction.

Condition: ? Remove the banjo bolt from the fuel pump adapter drain connection at the fuel pump adapter. ? Install the banjo test fitting, Part Number 4918413, in place of the banjo bolt. ? Install CompuchekTM fitting, Part Number 3042618, or equivalent, into the banjo test fitting. ? Attach a 0 to 762 mm-Hg [0 to 30 in-Hg] pressure/vacuum gauge to the banjo test fitting at the fuel pump

adapter. ? Secure the gauge in a safe readable location so the vehicle can be road tested.

Action

Specification/Repair

Next Step

Operate the engine at low idle, high idle, and during a road test under load. Observe the reading on the gauge.

Drain line restriction greater than 101.6 mm- 5A Hg [4 in-Hg]? YES Repair: Check the fuel drain system for restrictions such as proper fuel line size, leaks, bends, kinks, cracks, or clogs. Also check for proper fuel tank vent operation.

Drain line restriction greater than 101.6 mm- 5A Hg [4 in-Hg]? NO Repair: Replace the fuel pump adapter and actuator. Refer to Procedure 005-228 in the Associated Procedures Table. Calibrate the ECM to the latest available calibration revision even if the ECM already contains the latest revision available. This is necessary to reset the fault code counter. The counter will not reset using any of the reset functions in INSITETM electronic service tool. Failure to calibrate the ECM may result in repeat occurrences of this fault code. Refer to Procedure 019-032 in the Associated Procedures Table.
