ANCHORAGE CONCERT CHORUS

MENTORSHIP GUIDELINES

The Anchorage Concert Chorus (ACC) is offering mentorships for young singers so they may enjoy the experience of singing with Alaska’s premier large choral group! This mentorship will waive your membership dues, fundraising obligations and provide your music and the expert tutelage of our Conductor and Artistic Director, Dr. Grant Cochran, for the ACC’s 2018-2019 concert season. If you are selected for a mentorship, you will enjoy the same opportunities and responsibilities as any member. In order to be eligible, you must meet and agree to the following requirements:

1) You must be 16 years of age or older (or will be 16 by August 20, 2018) but not over 25 years of age, attending high school or college in Alaska, and available to sing the ACC regular concert season (August 20, 2018 - April 6, 2019). Additionally, the ability to read music and have some choral experience is preferred.

2) You must be available to audition for the ACC. Your audition will be arranged to coincide with our regular auditions scheduled for August 13 and August 14, 2018 between 5 – 9 p.m. at Central Lutheran Church. To arrange an audition, email ACC’s Auditions Chair, Lou Ann Hennig at: lahanc@ and bring your application with you to the audition. (If other arrangements are required, every effort will be made to accommodate your needs.)

3) You must be available to attend regular ACC rehearsals which are held Monday nights from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Central Lutheran Church in Anchorage at 15th and Cordova. Additional rehearsals include dress rehearsals, usually the two evenings prior to our concerts, a Saturday morning and occasionally others TBA, especially if you are interested in Chorale or solos. The ACC always has a great season planned and 2018-2019 continues that history. The season planned is as follows:

Concert I: Saturday, October 14, 2018, 4:00 p.m., explore and celebrate Alaska through original music commissioned by the ACC from artists Eric Banks and Emerson Eads, who beautifully capture much of Alaska’s history. Additionally, the ACC will be joined by Intuit music and dance artists Pamyua. This is a truly unique and once in a lifetime opportunity for all - musicians and audiences. Concert II: Sunday, December 16, 2018, 4 p.m. is our Family Holiday Pops Christmas Concert. This afternoon concert is traditionally our most popular concert and features music from many genres and is rated “G” for the entire family! Concert III: April 6, 2019, as guests of the Anchorage Symphony, the ACC joins the Alaska Chamber Singers and the West High School Concert Choir for a program of famous movie scores including Amadeus, On the Waterfront, Saving Private Ryan and Alexander Nevsky. All regular season concerts are held in the Atwood Hall of the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. And, of course, you are invited to sing Messiah – a special and anticipated ‘kick-off’ to the Holiday Season. Rehearsals begin the first Sunday of November and are held each Sunday thereafter with the performance Sunday, December 2, 2018.

Again, to arrange an audition, email ACC’s Auditions Chair Lou Ann Hennig at: lahanc@ and bring your application with you to the audition.

4) Your application must be signed by you (and your parent or guardian if under 18).

5) Any music provided by the ACC is the property of the ACC and must be returned when you leave the chorus. You will also be asked to complete an exit evaluation of your experience so the ACC can measure the effectiveness of our Mentorship Awards.

It's that simple and there are several High School and College Mentorships available.

If chosen for an award, you must also complete an Anchorage Concert Chorus Membership Agreement prior to receiving your music.
