COVID-19 Audience Outlook Monitor: Phase 1 Survey QuestionsThis document contains the questions contained in the Audience Outlook Monitor Phase 1 Australian survey. BackgroundThe Audience Outlook Monitor is a three-phase study tracking how audiences feel about attending arts and culture events in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The questions were developed by US research agency WolfBrown, with input from Australian research partner Patternmakers, and supporting partners Australia Council for the Arts, Creative Victoria, Create NSW and Arts Queensland, along with a range of partners internationally. The questionnaire was tested in a series of focus groups with arts managers and audience members in Australia and the USA. About this documentAll 85 questions used in the Australian Phase 1 survey are shown overleaf. However, please note that in programming the Audience Outlook Monitor survey as an online survey, some sections were rotated, so that the survey length did not exceed 15 minutes for respondents. This means that one-third of the total sample of 23,000 answered detailed questions about participating at home, online and supporting arts and culture organisations. If looking to apply any questions in your own research, we recommend selecting only those questions that are most relevant to your needs. As a rule of thumb, this should include no more than 20 quantitative questions and 5 qualitative questions. Questions that are asked in the same way in your own surveying may be able to be benchmarked against the data shared in the national dashboard. The logic statements for some questions (in purple), indicate that you only need to show certain questions based on specific conditions or responses to previous questions. This will also save your respondents from survey fatigue and improve your data quality.Further survey guidance You can find more useful tips for surveying in Creative Victoria’s Audience Research Toolkit.
