Course Description: Class instruction in the fundamentals of beginning guitar. For the non-guitar major. Lab required.

Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to do the following guitar related skills:

1. Accurate tuning

2. Reading musical notation on the guitar

3. Accurate rhythmic performance

4. Right hand techniques: rest and free strokes

5. Chords and arpeggios

6. Chromatic scale over three octaves

7. Harmonic progressions in A Minor, C, G, D, A, and E

8. Strumming and rasgueado techniques

9. Melodic performance in first position

10. Accidentals in melodic performance

11. Ensemble performance with correct fingerings

12. Solo performance with correct fingerings

13. Musical terminology

14. Guitar technical terminology
