Welcome to UNT, «First Name»!

Welcome to UNT, ?First Name?!

WELCOME Class 2021

CONGRATULATIONS!

On behalf of the administration, faculty, and staff, welcome to University of North Texas and the class of 2021! We are proud that you have chosen to become a member of our growing UNT family! In order to assist you with your transition to UNT, all new undergraduate students are required to attend an orientation session. Orientation is a 3-day experience designed to help students and families become acclimated to the university. During orientation, you will have the chance to meet with faculty and staff, meet your new classmates, connect with current students, learn about university resources, and receive academic advising in preparation for registering for classes. You will leave orientation understanding our university's spirit and traditions, as well as what to expect as you embark on your college experience.

USING YOUR FRESHMAN BOOKLET

Your Freshman Booklet is your guide to what should be done before arriving on campus for the fall semester. Your first step in becoming a UNT student is attending orientation, but there are many tasks that you need to complete before and after orientation in order to be prepared for Mean Green Move-In Weekend! Our hope is that you use this book as a guide for what to do next. If you have questions along the way, call our office at 940-565-4198 and we'd be happy to help!

FIRST FLIGHT WEEK

We believe every UNT student has the potential to succeed. We also know that the transition to college can often be difficult as you begin to navigate a new environment where you are now responsible for all of your decisions--both positive and negative. Part of our responsibility is to help you shape your college experience in a way that sets you up for success. You are an important member of our university community and we want to make sure you, too, feel like an integral member of it. To help you start on the right foot, all new freshmen will be required to participate in First Flight, UNT's official welcome week program. First Flight consists of a series of events all geared toward starting your first semester on the right foot. Ultimately, by the end of First Flight, we want you to feel prepared, have a sense of what a healthy college lifestyle looks like, feel connected to the university community, and already be thinking about your future! All new freshmen must be checked in to First Flight and on campus by Sunday, August 21 at 4:00pm for the First Flight Kick-Off. Once First Flight kicks-off, regardless of if you live on campus or will be commuting to campus, you should plan to spend the entire week at UNT. More information on First Flight, including how to check in can be found at studentaffairs. unt.edu/first-flight-week.

Because your needs are slightly different, we encourage you to attend a special meeting prior to the orientation welcome to help better prepare you for your orientation experience. This meeting will take place at 1:30pm on the first day of your orientation. We encourage you to check in to orientation at 1:00pm and then attend this meeting. The location of the meeting will be available to you at check-in.

One of your first steps in starting at UNT should be setting up your EagleConnect email account so you don't miss out on important messages about your college experience. All campus offices will correspond with you through this email platform, so it is your responsibility and in your best interest to check your account regularly. Please visit eagleconnect.unt.edu for more information on accessing EagleConnect.

EAGLE ALERT SYSTEM

Eagle Alert notifies campus with immediate emergency information. Students should update their phone number on the my.unt.edu portal by logging in with their EUID (example: abc1234) and password. From there, click on "update your information" in the Eagle Alert section. Eagle Alert allows UNT administrators to quickly contact campus community members by phone about emergency situations affecting the safety and wellbeing of people on and around the UNT campus. The system sends voice messages to the phones, including cell phones, of all active faculty, staff, and students. The system can also send text messages to cell phones if you grant the system permission to do so before hand. @UNTEagleAlert is UNT's official campus emergency Twitter account.
