How Students Will Be Graded US History (Regular) Quizzes & Tests ? 60% Classwork & Homework ? 40%

US History (Honors) Quizzes & Tests ? 65% Classwork & Homework ? 35%

Students in US History Honors will be required to complete a National History Day project.

Students are reminded that academic dishonesty is not acceptable. Academic honesty means that students must not cheat on tests or copy other classmates work and hand it in as their own. Students must reference material that they use in assignments to avoid the chance of plagiarism. Students caught cheating (including copying and/ or letting work be copied) will receive a "0" for that assignment or assessment. Students caught plagiarizing will receive one opportunity to make up the assignment for half credit. If student is caught a second time plagiarizing, they will receive a "0". Students caught using an electronic device during a test or quiz may also receive a "0".

There will be a US History EOC Exam that will be worth 30% of the student's final grade.

Late Work Assignments will be accepted up to five days late. with 10% deducted each day the assignment is late. For example, if there was an assignment due on Tuesday and the student turned it in on Thursday, they would receive a 20% deduction ? an original grade of 92% with the loss of 20% would reduce the grade to a 73.6%. After five days students may, for half credit, turn in any work until the unit test. After the unit test no late work will be accepted.

Absent Work Upon return it is the student's responsibility to ask for any work when absent within two days. Students then have two days for each day absent to make up any work. Assignments (or tests) that were due on the day you were absent will be due the day you return. Students out for extended period due to COVID will make up work using Canvas while quarantined as long as they are well enough to do so.

Students at school, but absent for a school related event (such as a pep rally), will still be expected to turn in any assignments due that day by the end of the school day. Additionally, any homework assigned that day will still have the same due date; however, students will still receive the two days to make up any work missed during the class period.

Students may be required to complete a different version of the assessment if they are absent on the day of the test (whether excused or unexcused). This alternate version may be in a different format than the original test.

Extra Credit In general, extra credit will be not be offered. Extra credit WILL NOT be given at the end of a grading period to individual students wanting to bring up their grade who have not completed the required work of that grading period.

Classroom Philosophy I will establish with students on day 1 of class that my room is a safe place that fosters an environment of growth, fairness, acceptance, and understanding. At no time will I tolerate any racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, or political bias. If a student makes any "off the cuff" statements, they should expect to be challenged and required to present information to prove or disprove their claims.

Classroom Expectations u RESPECT ? respect your peers, the teacher, and yourself u Be on time u Come to class prepared and ready to learn u Cell phones are out of sight ? backpack, pocket, or locker

Additional expectations set forth by the District School Board of Pasco County can be found within the student planner.

Pasco County Schools COVID-19 Policy Masks will be worn in all buildings and where you cannot socially distance (6ft). If a student needs a mask break, they will notify their teacher. This means a student can take a brief break outside the classroom.

AHS Procedures for Noncompliance to COVID-19 Policy The following procedures will be implemented in situations where a non-exempt student is non-compliant. u Student will receive 1 verbal reminder from administration or staff. u If a second offense occurs, then a telephone, or virtual conference with both the student and the

announcements related to face coverings (if school is doing this daily as part of the morning announcements) or view the following CDC video as well as review the following CDC guidance. u During the conference, the parent/guardian(s) will be notified that continued noncompliance with the emergency rule and procedures may result in the student being removed from the brick and mortar school and being educated utilizing one of the virtual or distance learning opportunities made available by the School Board. u If student refuses to follow safety procedures & receives 3rd warning AHS will submit the required documentation to SSPS Compliance u If approved by SSPS & School Board, families will be notified of a change of placement via mySchool Online or Pasco eSchool.

Leaving the Classroom Students are not permitted to leave the classroom without permission unless they're experiencing an emergent issue. Students should otherwise request to leave the room and wait for acknowledgement prior to leaving. It is my expectation that students use the restroom and retrieve water during passing. If a student leaves the classroom more than once per week, they will be asked to forfeit their passing to catch up on what they missed while out of the room.

Additional Policies & Requirements Students should consult their handbook to ensure they are familiar with all school & district policies additional to what is covered in this syllabus.
