It serves the dioceses and the bishops by providing advice and consultancy on ministry, overseeing a national process of selection for candidates and quality assurance of their training and supporting dioceses in their strategic planning for ministry. Its vision is for transforming ministry for mission and growth and its values are based in working collaboratively to offer a constructive, professional and expert service to the dioceses. JOB SUMMARY:Working within the culture of a Church wishing to see a 50% increase in the numbers of ordinations by 2020, the National Adviser for Selection is part of a team of Advisers who facilitate, moderate and act as the Secretary for Bishops’ Advisory Panels. The team also ensure the effective operation of the Candidates Panel. Advisers give professional advice in Selection issues to Dioceses; offer training and development to Directors of Ordinands; and are partners in the selection and training of Bishops’ Advisers. The Adviser will also be working to implement new ways of working in the Selection Process as envisaged by the Future Clergy Review Process and the adviser will grow an area of expertise within this process. New Selection processes will require new patterns of working from September 2020. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To be the Panel Secretary to 8 Bishops’ Advisory Panels each year. Panels advise Bishops about the suitability of candidates for ordained ministry in the Church of England and the Scottish Episcopal Church. This will include working with Business Support colleagues in completing pre-panel paperwork checks; advise, coach and support Bishops’ Advisers in their discernment of candidates and decision-making; overall management, attendance, co-ordination and efficient running of the four-day residential Panels which will include leading worship and preaching; editing and preparing reports on candidates and ensuring that post-Panel records and paperwork are completed and kept safely; maintaining and developing a knowledge of the Selection Criteria ensuring that Panels work consistently with these criteriaCandidates Panel: The Adviser will be part of a team who ensure the effective operation of the Candidates Panel which is responsible for advising Bishops concerning candidates who for example seek a new focus for their ministryTo work to implement the recommendations of the Future Clergy Review in terms of renewed good practice within the Selection Process. This change management process will begin with training for DDOs in January 2019 and come to fruition for those attending BAPs from September 2020. These new processes will require National Advisers to work in new ways which are not yet agreed but which might include a more regional focusTo be part of the team of National Advisers who work collaboratively to give expert advice and consultancy to Dioceses in Selection issues and to be involved in building strategic capacity amongst the DDOs so that they can sustain the growth in vocationsTo play a part in developing and delivering a training curriculum for DDOs that will ensure good practice in Selection.To work with Sponsoring Bishops’ in the selection, appointment and ongoing training and development of Bishops’ Advisers especially as their role evolves under the Future Clergy Review process.As part of the ongoing development of Selection processes, to develop an area of expertise with an aspect of these processes.To work with Business Support Manager and Officers in the Implementation of new administrative processes to support the wider Vocations and Selection work.To carry out any other duties as required.The main duties and responsibilities of your post are outlined in your job description. The post holder will represent the Church of England and participate in worship and is responsible for advising on the Selection of those with a vocation to ordained ministry. On satisfactory completion of the probationary period the salary will rise to the standard point for the band ?46,839 per annum. Pension Contributions:Non-clergy staff will be admitted to the Church Administrators Pension Fund (CAPF, DC Section). Clergy already in the Church of England Funded Pensions Scheme (CEFPS) will have the option of either remaining in this scheme or joining the CAPF scheme.There is no contracting – out certificate under the Pension Schemes Act 1993 in force for this employment in relation to the CAPF and CEFPS. Both CAPF and CEFPS members are contracted-in to the State Second Pension.Hours of Duty:Normal hours of work are 35 per week, Monday to Friday with an hour’s unpaid break for lunch. Time off in Lieu:Each completed Bishops’ Advisory Panel accumulates two days of Time Off in LieuAnnual Leave:25 days paid leave per leave year. This is exclusive of public holidays and additional holidays approved by your employer.
