Integrated Wood Engineering and Design Program

Assistant/Associate Professor

(Tenure-Track position)

The University of Northern British Columbia invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track positions, at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. The primary responsibility will be to teach and support courses for the Integrated Wood Engineering and Design program at the Wood Innovation and Design Centre, located in downtown Prince George, as well as at the Prince George campus. This position will also involve developing course to be taught and collaborating with other faculty and staff to develop a successful program. The preferred start date for these positions is September 2014.

Applicants for these positions will hold a PhD in a relevant discipline and be a Professional Engineer in Canada, or have credentials which will allow them to become accredited in Canada within three years. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered. As teaching will be a required component of the positions, applicants are strongly recommended to present evidence of excellence in teaching.

The successful applicants will be part of the Integrated Wood Engineering and Design program at the Wood Innovation and Design Centre and will be responsible for teaching and research in this new program. The core philosophy the program will be a holistic view of structures as a significant component of a healthy community. Significant components of the program include:

• Innovative structural design;

• Engineering of timber/wood connections;

• Prefabrication methods

• Design of hybrid wood structures with concrete, steel or glass composites;

• Vibrations and acoustics;

• Fire control and safety in larger wooden structures

• Life cycle analysis of sustainable building materials;

• Design of healthy indoor environments
