2015-2016 PSAT/NMSQT

The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) will be offered on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 due to the College Board not offering a Saturday test date this school year. The test is co-sponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) and is developed and administered for them by Educational Testing Service (ETS). All assessments include a Reading Test, a Writing and Language Test, and a Math Test. The SAT will have an optional essay component, which some colleges will require. Questions throughout the assessments will focus on the few things that research shows matter most for college readiness and success. Please note this is the first administration of the redesigned PSAT in preparation for the redesigned SAT in March 2016. To find changes to the redesigned PSAT, more information can be found at .

The most common reasons for taking the PSAT/NMSQT are to:

• Receive feedback on your strengths and weaknesses on skills necessary for college study. You can then focus your preparation on those areas that could most benefit from additional study or practice.

• See how your performance on an admissions test might compare with that of others applying to college.

• Enter the competition for annual scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). Taking the PSAT/NMSQT as a junior is the only way to be eligible for National Merit recognition.

• Help prepare for the SAT. You can become familiar with the kinds of questions and the exact directions you will see on the SAT.

• Receive information from colleges when you check "yes" to Student Search Service.

Again this year, we will be returning test books to students at the time scores are distributed. A Report of Student Answers, which records the student’s answers and the correct answers to the test questions, is provided for each student who takes a regular edition of the test on the specified date. Score reports will be distributed to the students prior to winter break.

TEST DATE: Wednesday, October 14, 2015 TEST CENTER: North Allegheny High School DOORS OPEN: 7:00 A.M. START TIME: 7:25 A.M. The PSAT takes approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes FEE: $15.00 (PAYMENT CAN BE MADE BY CASH OR CHECK)
