Week Beginning: Monday 20th April

Year 1 & Year 2 Home Learning - Week Beginning 4-5-2020The activities and links to resources for this week can be found in the table below. Each week, literacy (Read Write Inc), and numeracy activities will be set as a ‘DAILY MUST’. We have named these activities a ‘Daily Must’ as they are vitally important to ensure that your child’s academic skills do not significantly decline during these uncertain times (these activities will be mostly revision of topics already covered). As well as the ‘Daily Must’ activities, we are setting a topic work ‘project’ to be created over three weeks. We are also including additional creative and outdoor tasks which your child can complete if they so wish. Activities can be recorded online using ‘Hwb - Just2easy - Jit’ or on paper. Any activities recorded on paper or practically can be shared with class teachers in photo form, either as a Dojo message or a photo uploaded to Hwb using ‘My Files’ within ‘Just2easy’.‘DAILY MUST’ Literacy: Read Write IncActivities: Speed Sounds and Green Words Daily practise of the sounds at speed and reading the ‘Green’ words using ‘Special Friends - Fred Talk - Read the Word’ strategy. The sounds and words are available as daily lessons on YouTube or can be taught using the flashcards.Click on the YouTube link below to find daily lessons for the sounds and corresponding green words that your child is learning. Muddle the squares up and put them in order starting from the smallest number all the way to the largest. Now write < and > on the two other squares of paper (remember < = less than and > = more than). Choose 2 of the numbers and put the correct symbol between them (either < or >), and read your number sentence – for example, 67 > 34. Record the number sentences on paper or on Hwb (Jit Write or Jit Mix). How many different number sentences can you make from the 6 numbers you chose and the symbols? Can you make a number sentence using both symbols and three of your numbers?Main Activity 2 - Addition: Missing numbers(2 Dojos will be awarded for missing numbers work evidenced)Can you use your knowledge of number bonds to fill in the missing numbers in the number sentences below: 2 + … = 9 5 + … = 8 6 + … = 8 1 + … = 7 … + 2 = 20 … + 5 =20 … + 18 = 20 ... + 4 = 20 2 + … = 20 15 + … = 25 17 + … = 27 1 + … = 31 … + 13 = 19 … + 7 =16 … + 9 = 17 ... + 12 = 18 20 + … = 100 50 + … = 100 70 + … = 100 10 + … = 100 40 + … = 70Can you make up your own missing number additions for your parent/carer? (2 Dojos will be awarded for evidence of creating at least 10 missing number sums)ORAlternatively, if you would like Carol Vorderman to teach your child maths skills, click on the link below and register for free:(2 Dojos will be awarded for each piece of work evidenced from using this site)OR ‘DAILY MUST’Numeracy:Miss Davies’ Maths Set onlyActivities: ‘Daily Must’Daily practise of counting forwards to 100 and backwards from 20.Count in 2s, 5s and 10s to 100 (starting at different points if you can).Practise writing out and reciting the 2x tables – if you can do this practise your 5s and 10s.Practise doubling numbers to 10 – if you can do this practise halving numbers up to 20.Ask an adult to shout out any number between 0-100 – is it odd or even? How can you prove it? Use your fingers to display the units from that number – does it have a friend?Activity 1: Part-whole models and Fact familiesHow many different part-whole models are there that have a whole-part of 10?Write them down on a piece of paper and upload it to your HWB account to show me.Can you write the addition fact families for each of these part-whole models?Activity 2: Number BondsYou will need: 2 paper or plastic plates10 of your favourite sweets or chocolateSplit your sweets/chocolate up on the 2 plates to make different number bonds of 10. Record them on a piece of paper or JiT. Use a systematic approach to make sure you have not missed any number bonds out.If you find this easy try number bonds to 7, 8 and 9. Once you have written all of the number bonds you can eat your sweets!ICTWhy not have a look on: Day Challenge:Complete one challenge each day to earn yourself a tick. The more ticks you get the closer you will become to earning a cup. ‘DAILY MUST’ Numeracy:Mrs Pugsley’s Maths Set onlyDaily Warm Up *Daily practice counting forwards to 20 and backwards from 10.Counting on your fingers – waking them up when counting forwards and sleeping (putting them down) when counting backwards. *Show me …......using your fingers (start with numbers 1-5 and increase to 1-10) *Have your hand behind your back so your child cannot see. Hold up a certain number using your fingers or number card – explain I have a number that is one more than …..one less than …..what number do I have? *Write numbers 1-5 on separate pieces of paper – Can you put them in order from the smallest to the biggest? What is one more? What is one less? (expand to numbers 1-10)Activity 1Watch – Number blocks episode 12: A whole of me towers of 5 - Have 2 different coloured blocks/lego/cups/plant pots (anything you can stack) (see printable challenge cards under resources)Key questions:Can you build a tower of 5 using the two colours?e.g. How many yellow blocks do you have? How many green blocks? What colour is the least/most amount? How many are there altogether? You could get your child to record the sums any way they choose (using a computer, chalks, paint, pen, pencil) e.g.0+5 = 5, 1+4 = 5, 2+3=5, 3+2=5, 4+1 = 5 and 5+0=5Activity 2Create a envelope monster Explain that the monster likes to eat numbers. Have numbers 1-5 (increase to 10 to make it harder) written on separate pieces of paper. Ask your child to feed the monster a number of your choosing. Or ask them to choose a number and tell you what it is and to feed the monster. You could also, ask your child to feed the numbers in the correct order. Practicing number bonds to 5 – Explain that the monster only likes to eat the total of 5. Give the monster 2 – what do we need to add to it to make 5? The monster may spit out incorrect numbers. Activity 3 (see resources for the posters/PowerPoint and worksheets required)Look at different ways 5 can be represented using poster and/or power point. Complete these worksheets if you have not got access to a printer you could copy them onto a piece of paper/chalks on the wall or do them practically using paper plates for the dots.
