BOOK SCHOLARSHIP–Ada Duflock Memorial

IMPERIAL VALLEY COLLEGE FOUNDATION

SPRING

Ada Duflock was born August 21, 1912. She grew up in Savannah, Georgia. Ada’s mother, who died in the 1918 flu pandemic, was a registered nurse, as was her stepmother. Of the five Colquitt sisters, three, including Ada, also became registered nurses. Ada moved to El Centro in 1937 when she married her high school sweetheart, Bill Duflock. These southern transplants loved El Centro and made it their lifelong home. Over her career Ada worked as a private duty nurse, in doctors’ offices and in hospital settings, but her passion was public health. She ended her career as a Public Health Nurse at the Imperial County Health Department; it was a job she loved. She passed away in 2008 at the age of 96.
