Notice of Annual School District Meeting and Notice of School Election

Notice is hereby given that the Annual School District Meeting/Public Hearing of the Mount Markham Central School District will be held remotely Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 7:00 PM Eastern Daylight Savings Time. Pursuant to Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order, the general public may not participate on site in meetings. The general public may view the meeting remotely, as the meeting will be viewable through a live stream video. Directions and the live stream video link will be posted on our district website, .

Notice is also given that the vote upon the appropriation of necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures of 2020-2021 school year, and the election of three (3) members to the Board of Education will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2020. Such vote shall be held by absentee ballot only. Absentee ballots must be received the day of the election by 4 P.M. for the purpose of:

• Proposition No. 1- To adopt a budget for the 2020-2021 school year.

• Proposition No.2- Approval of Libraries Tax Levy

Shall the proposition be approved authorizing the Board of Education of the Mount Markham School District to levy taxes annually in the amount of fifty two thousand five hundred and fifty one dollars ($53,220) and pay over such monies to trustees of the West Winfield Library and the Bridgewater Free Library.

• Notice of Election- To elect three (3) members of the Board of Education for three (3) year terms.

Notice is also given that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required for the ensuing year for school purposes, exclusive of public monies, may be obtained by any qualified voter in the district during the fourteen (14) days immediately preceding the Annual Meeting except, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays at the District Office located in the Mount Markham Middle School in the Village of West Winfield, and in each school building in the district during the hours of 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM Eastern Daylight Savings Time.

Due to the Governor’s Executive order (202.26) notice is also given that candidates for the office of Board of Education member are not required to submit petitions. To be placed on the ballot for the position of school board member, candidate(s) are required to notify the Clerk of the District by submitting a letter stating the date of the current year election; their name, address, and may include other relevant information about themselves. They must have resided in the district for at least 1 year and be at 18 years of age or older. This letter must be provided to the Clerk of the District during normal business hours not less than the 30 days before said election, on or before 4:00 PM Monday, May 11, 2020, at the clerk’s office, which is located in the Middle School.

Notice is also given that voting will be done by Absentee Ballot only for the adoption of the Budget, Proposition No. 1, Approval of Libraries tax levy, Proposition No. 2 and Notice of Election of Board Members. Due to the Governor’s Executive order (202.26) notice is given that voting will be by absentee ballot only. Absentee ballots will be made available to all eligible district voters. Eligible voters may request an absentee ballot by contacting the district office at 315-822-2824. An Absentee ballot and postage paid return envelope will be provided. Absentee ballots will be accepted for the listed propositions up to 5PM on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at the district office.
